HiveBloPoMo 9 - And so it Begins
I was struggling to find a reason to post today - gotta keep up with a daily over the course of the month - and since I'm not following a calendar, I had to search.
Luckily for me I remembered that I recently bought some more dollar store goodies; little plastic Christmas houses that sit right over a battery powered tea light. I felt that these would be fun for some makeshift lightpainting photos.
Here we have a quaint little cottage, lit by an internal battery powered tealight. I cranked the f/stop all the way down to 32 on this and used a 25 second exposure. I can well imagine a small family puttering around in the evening, putting children to bed, and relaxing in the front room with a hot cup of hot chocolate.
This Post Office did not turn out well with an internal light, as it simply didn't light the sign on the building, so to light this I used a pen flashlight that I have. I like to imagine that it's lit by gas powered streetlights. I like the wreath on the front door.
Finally we have a cozy looking church. I do like how this turned out, with the church as a beacon of light in the dark night.
I do love dollar store props. These are definitely not going to replace my ceramic houses, but they definitely are quaint. I should look to see if they have any additional models.

Well done for participating in HiveBloPoMo... that's a lot of dedication to posting!
You really can get all sorts of interesting things at dollar stores and thrift stores... those are among our mainstays for "stuff." I do like how your photos turned out!
=^..^=
They really are amazing stores! Several months ago I found two paintings of clowns at a thrift store that I used for Arduino projects. They were perfect!
Thanks for stopping by!
What a cool effect, Victor! I would never have guessed that they were Dollar Store props.
How did you get the light so subdued?
Congratulations on staying the course! I think it is harder being in this than poting every day on a regular basis!
I'm still in it :) And long term, I would hope daily posting becomes a solid habit ❤️
That's certainly a good goal to have, and goals will never be reached if they're not planned, first! Good luck to us both!
I have faith that we can do it :) My daily post was an easy choice for today. I have some Hive that's just chirping to be given away ❤️
It was a combination of a dark room and a really soft light. With a long exposure (25 seconds in this case) I can be very precise where the light comes from.
And thanks! Honestly, this has been difficult. I'm hoping I can keep up with actual content and don't need to resort to taking a picture of a litter box to use for a shit post.
I find myself waiting for the Lego people to start coming out of the buildings.
Hahaha. That'll be December with the annual Lego Advent. I'm already planning!
Those are nice, they really don't look plastic! It never hurts to ask if there are other models.
Thanks! Dollar stores usually have really interesting items for prop photography; I'm never disappointed.
They make great ornaments too :)
those are so cool especially how you have captured them, A good subject to keep your HiveBloPoMo run going
I shouldhave joined that but i only read about it a couple of days into the month
I'm using HiveBloPoMo primarily to try to rebuild a cadence of posting. I usually don't participate in the various "7/X day blogging challenges", but I do want to actually start posting again.
Thanks @ewkaw!
You're very welcome!
I really liked the effect of your photos. The darkness behind the little houses and how bright they look. They are so colorful!
Thank you very much! That was precisely the effect I was hoping to achieve. I'm glad you liked them!
