Getting In the Mood

After spending some time yesterday browsing through a number of Hive posted photoposts, I was inspired to actually take a couple of staged photos of my own. Truthfully, I was really wanting to engage in some lightpainting photography, but I wasn't quite able to get set up for anything like that. What I ended up with was some new props from the local dollar store and a creepy dollhouse from an "escape room" type boardgame.

I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for in the dollar store. I did know that I wanted a new light source, but I didn't know what I wanted it to be, nor did I know if I wanted to photograph something, or someone, or even where. Then I came across these three small skeletons - skeletons are, by far, my favourite Halloween prop - and felt that whatever else I wanted to do with these, I had to have them.

On the way out of the store I also found this solar-powered light. I wanted this, too; in fact, it became my light source.

So here I present to you, Hear no Evil Good, Speak no Evil Good, See no Evil Good.

Thanks Victor! I actually do have some large skeletons that I like to pose, too, one of which is nearly human size. They are definitely one of my favourite props.

Thanks much! I like to look at new ways of photographing mundane things, particularly toys. It often makes me think that I need to get out more.

These turned out pretty incredible. I love that dollar store props are involved. It's also cool to hear how you got inspired to do this in the first place. Looking forward to your future light paintings.

Thank you! I'm pretty happy with how these turned out, too. The biggest issue I had was keeping the cat from getting in the way.

The dollar store usually has an interesting and eclectic selection of various things; I've got a collection of various knick knacks that I pull out every now and then for props. It's honestly one of my favourite stores to find odds and ends.

Thanks for stopping by!

You are welcome! I hear Dollar Tree and/or Family Dollar are good. I forget which one is the better of the two... but i know some folks that love browsing there often!

Cats have a sixth sense for when to get in the way!

You need to buy bandages at a pharmacy and a few props in the spirit of the Egyptian pyramids)))

Hehe! You know I love what you do with your skeletons! :) You know if I tried to do that it would look horribly mundane and yet, you make it look pretty dang cool.

Well played!

Hee! Thank you! I have an ever growing collection of them, too. And y'know, skeletons and photography are two things near and dear to my heart!

How I know! :) I am actually looking forward to seeing what you can possibly do that you haven't already done for this Halloween.

Are you cooking something up already?

Yes! Yes I am. It involves two clowns and this radio:

How awesome is that! This one is a Crosley. I'll post about it one day. I need to replace the power cord, but the tubes all look to be good. There's plenty of room inside for me to make some personal additions, too!

Now that's pretty cool and yes it's empty inside. And the tubes work there's no reception. Seems like it should everything is a go. I was just beside myself when I got it a Michigan auction for $2! I got it out of pity at the time. I couldn't believe but nobody wanted it.

$2! Incredible find!

I found this one via craigslist with an older couple who were looking to downsize. They hated getting rid of it, but were very happy it was going somewhere that it would be appreciated.

I should note that I've had it for 15 years. Maybe even 17. It's too cool to get rid of it.

Once I'm done modifying mine (without damaging it), I'll be happy to turn yours into a haunted radio too. 😁
