Happy World Stress Day! (Nov 3)

How convenient that it is World Stress Day today because I really am stressed mentally today. I can't say I've dealt with it properly but I have tried to not be too bothered.

For me, stress can be both a cause or a result of a lack of motivation to do anything and it can be complicated not knowing which I'm experiencing at a particular point in time.

I think my favorite way to destress is to see a good movie, preferably comedy and also some lightheaded self-reflection.

Other ways to destress are;

Writing

Often times I come here on hive to write just to get my mind on something else and it always has a way of relaxing me, especially when I just want to rant.

Breathing exercises

This is like an instant relief that works when it feels like my head is going to explode. I take deep breaths and exhale slowly. Works every time.

Workout

Dancing to loud music in my underpants not only makes me happy and eases stress, it also counts as workout for the day so it's a win-win with this one.

Having conversations

Sometimes I don't want to talk because it's even more stressful, other times, conversations with others does the trick.

Go outside

I don't like the outdoors but when stressed sometimes, it's just what I need particularly because there's icecream outside and then good 'ol sun.

Cleaning

I stress-clean a lot because a clean space makes me feel like I have my life together.

Self-care tips

I believe self-care is how you treat yourself every single day and not just some special day you set aside for facials and movie nights.

To avoid stress, I try not to over-work myself. There are times when I have random bursts of energy and I bite more than I can chew, I end up breaking my limit. So I try to listen to my body, don't do too much.

Keeping to a sleep schedule reduces how often I get stressed and I try not to take a lot of alcohol and caffeine generally.

Ultimately, I shut out situations that might stress me and don't engage triggers.

So, how do you destress?

Awesome ways to destress. I destress by writing too, having the freedom to be creative and being allowed to let me do what I enjoy doing definitely is a great way to vent out stress.

What about when there's no motivation to write, what do you do then?

Whenever I have no motivation I just watch movies or have a rest day. Having a day off from all my academic studies seems to be very great for my mental health.

I think the best way to handle stress is to do what makes you forget at that point. Depending on what your stressor might be, you might need to sleep or listen to loud music.

I usually just try to forget.
