What I Love About Nigeria 🇳🇬

It is quite interesting to want to pen what I like about my country down considering the current state of the country in terms of security, economy, health and the likes.

There is a Yorùbá adage that paraphrases that "a bad child do have their good days". As much as we all crave to "japa" at the slightest opportunity that we have to other countries, we still have that one thing that we admire so much about our beloved country that makes us happy even in the middle of the ups and downs that the country is going through.

I have gone through some people's posts about what they love about our beloved country, Nigeria and it was really interesting to read and trust me I can relate. I will try to talk about something that I didn't particularly see in people's post.

What I love about Nigeria/Nigerians is our negotiations skills.

Nigerians are so gifted at haggling or negotiating prices when we want to buy something either from the market women or from thrift stores online among others.

When I was growing up, I felt pity for one woman selling frozen foods when my mother priced her goods. I can't remember the exact amount so I will try to create a random figure that would show the extent of the way she priced it. The woman said the fish is #1000 and my mother was like she should give her for #500 that she wants to buy three. After so much back and forth, she agreed to sell at #700. The look I gave my mother that day when she said #500 was "mummy, you want to finish this woman?". Lol 😂

I'm sure a lot of us have developed this skill over time and we cannot let anyone cheat us. So many vendors intentionally put their prices high because they know you will still negotiate. It's only the not so smart people that tend to pay more for what they are suppose to pay less for.
