The Similar Intoxicating Effect of Alcohol and Sleep

Alcohol and sleep both have an intoxicating feeling on the body. It may look strange but it is quite a fact that the effects of alcohol on the body and sleep have some similarities. The tipsy feeling that results from taking alcohol can be likened to that which you also get when you are feeling sleepy and you try to force yourself to stay up.

I'm going to give some illustrations to make it more explanatory for everybody to understand. Imagine that you are in a boring lecture, seminar or any event whatsoever and you are feeling sleepy - in such scenario you'd not want it to be too obvious that you are sleeping. You eyes will be heavy that you'd even find it so difficult to keep them open, as you also swing your head back and forth. You wake up for a second and try to so hard to comport yourself but before you know it you've dozed off again.

In the same vein, alcohol is a known central nervous depressant that slows down the activities of the brain and can induce some feeling of weakness and also sleepiness. If you've got high at some point you'd understand without too much explanation.

I started writing this post in the cab when I was on my way home yesterday from work. There was a man who sat at the front seat with the driver who was undoubtedly tired as a result of the day's work. He started dozing off as soon as the vehicle took off. He fought with the sleep so hard but the sleep came out victorious. The car does not have a headrest, so his head keep dangling backwards and forward - he could not control it. It is right to say he was intoxicated by the sleep.

In addition, have you seen someone that is studying but forcing himself or herself to stay awake? This is a common example that everyone should be able to relate with. In my opinion, there is no difference between that feeling and the feeling of being high on alcoholic drinks.

This is me purging out some of my thoughts, anyways. There may not be any scientific evidence or backing for this.

This is an interesting thesis about the similar effects of alcohol and sleep, but those are more like "feelings" that we experience in those moments... Anyways, there is a big difference AFTER each of those two... After sleeping, you feel refreshed, but after a hard-partying, not really... :)

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project and it will be highlighted in the next post!

You are exactly correct.. The aftereffects of the two are quite distinct and one feels good than the other.

I have experience both and I can tell you that it's true

Staying awake when you are tipsy or feeling sleepy is almost impossible because your brain will always want you to close your eyes and doze off

Nice reflection, it was a wonderful read
