In my last post titled OUTCLASSING THE HURDLES THAT SLOW DOWN OR HALT YOUR GOALS, I made us understand that it is inevitable to encounter obstacles, challenges or setbacks on our path to achieving success. However, these setbacks can work for our good if we identify them and deal with them accordingly. Identifying the causes of our setbacks, such as impatience, negative thoughts, lack of passion, indiscipline, procrastination, fear of change as well as the people in your life that are drawing you back rather than pushing you forward, will help you to overcome them easily.

So, how do you overcome these setbacks that you encounter when chasing your dreams?

A lot of people do not have an idea of what to do, where to start from or how to progress when they face challenges in the pursuit of their goals. There are some questions that needs to be addressed in order to provide a fresh understanding of yourself, your live and the present situation that you find yourself. When these questions are adequately addressed it reveals all the potentials that these people do not know they posses.

The first step is to decipher how, where and when the problem started. This is an attempt to know the origin and source of the problem. Then, you ask yourself what the possible consequences are to you and people around you. Also, ask yourself if these setbacks is what you can control or not. If it's what you can control, identify the possible ways of doing that and if you can't control it, find out the ways to respond to it. Ask yourself what you can do differently and who can work with you to overcome the problem. Lastly, how do you know the problem have been solved?

What these questions will do is to open your mind and make you know more about the current setbacks that are holding you back from getting to your goals. When you have a clearer picture of the challenges, you'd have more understanding of the ways to work more efficiently and effectively towards your set goals.

We get overly frustrated, and overwhelmed when we are faced with setbacks, especially when they come at a time we weren't anticipating it. Well, you need to bear in mind that no matter how hard life hits you down, you've got to get up and keep moving.

There are steps you can take and decisions you can make that will make you motivated to keep pursuing your dreams.

  1. When we are faced with setbacks, we easily get into our emotions and make decisions that are not always productive but rather worsening the situation. It is important not to always let your emotions get the better of you, rather approach your challenges in an objective way. Stay calm and address the issues without letting your emotions get the better of you.
  2. Try to view your challenges in a different way. These challenges often present themselves the way we make them out to be. The idea we have in our mind about the obstacles or setbacks could only be a misinterpretation that we just need to correct in our minds.

  3. Do you know that at least one person have gone through this phase of your life at one point or the other? So, sometimes all it takes to overcome your setbacks is to seek guidance from people who have experience about what you are going through. There's no new thing under the earth. Seek the services of mentors, coaches, counselors and other experts to help you walk through the journey of achieving your goals.
  4. Get your priorities right by learning knowledge on how to become more effective and efficient in your life.

Make use of these techniques to outclass the hurdles that hold you back from achieving your goals in life.
