The Lost City (2022) - Movie Review.

Hello dear Hivers.
No this is not our usual episodes of movie recommendations I often share.
I recently saw this movie and this is just my honest review and not a suggestion.

THE LOST CITY.
An American action, adventure and comedic movie starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and a brief appearance by Brad Pitt.
The movie was directed by the Nee brothers; Adam and Aaron Nee and depicted from a story by Seth Gordon.

THE PLOT.
Starring Sandra Bullock who plays as Loretta Sage in this movie is a novelist that centers on writing romantic adventures between her and her brave fictional lover but us quirky in real life.

Her publicist and friend Beth suggests that she and Dash goes on tour to promote her latest novel - about a lost city in the deep ends of an island with everything needed to track and find the treasures hidden in it by two lovers.

Meanwhile Loretta had almost embraced depression as a result of loosing her real life lover to the cold hands of death.
Which made her socially awkward and as a result the tour ended in a mini chaos of embarrassment.

After an unsuccessful beginning, upon leaving the building she was kidnapped by hefty men in an SUV she mistook for hers.
Fortunately, Dash was able to witness the incident before they drove away and he immediately set to go after them.

Turns out the mastermind behind the kidnapping was a rich kid that finds maximum interest in treasure hunting.
After reading Loretta’s novel, he believed she might have the answers he is searching for to discover the treasures in his latest attraction.

On hearing this, Loretta scoffed on the idea and spurned his offer to indulge.
How can a novel based off of fiction turn into a real life mission to find the fictional hidden treasures in it.
Rich Kid of course was not happy with her reply and further abducted her away to the said island.

Simultaneously quirky Dash was on his own amusing mission to save his fictional lover from her abductor.
Realizing he could not single handedly do it alone, he contacted his mentor Jack Trainer - a guru in fighting bad guys to help in saving Loretta.

To me, this movie was well plotted, the comedic scenes were very amusing
and entertaining too.
Also each character fitted the description perfectly. Well all except Loretta Sage played by Sandra Bullock.

About three movies starring Sandra Bullock I’ve seen are all about serious action. This is the first time I’ve seen her in an adventurous comedic movie and I couldn’t actually visualize the role on her perfectly.

Moreover, In as much as I enjoyed this movie, I somehow also did not.
From the beginning I was excited by the initial plot and storyline but gradually approaching the end it was meh

A visual representation would be this image.

The beautiful beginning of the drawing represents the first 50 minutes of the movie then the amateurish end represents the remaining minutes of the movie.

There was a plot twist alright and that alone is what I believed saved the movie from being like every other typical stereotyped adventure movie.

The movie runs for a total of 112 minutes and had an overall budget of $68million.

In essence, this movie was good but it did not fit to my list of recommendations.
So I’d give it a 3 star rating.

For anyone into adventurous movies, you might like this. Especially with the twist close to the end.

I’ll leave you to wonder how she was rescued and if they found the treasure or if there was even any treasure at all ;)

Thanks for reading!

Hey there 👋🏽

I think the Lost City was an Ok movie. The jokes were really good and the actors knew how to play their characters well. I think my favorite character is the Beth lady because of her comedic boss lady vibes.

I agree with you that this movie was cool from the beginning and somehow started to become meh. I didn’t like that they just got so unrealistically lucky. I mean, the producers probably didn’t know how to kill Julian so they just let him fall. Not the best way to go about it if you ask me. Also, what the heck happened to the other tons of henchmen?? I guess we’ll never know.

Exactly my point. I won’t be surprise when they come up with a continuation of the movie.

I think where it started going south for me was when they did that to Brad Pitt and yeah Beth was my favorite too. The helicopter man and his goat also 😂

I kinda knew something like that would happen to Brad Pitt. He was cool but also too powerful. The goat guy was hilarious 😂.

Fun fact: Sandra Bullock asked Brad Pitt to take part in the film. This was done through her hairdresser...
