Movie sound tracks are underrated

I’ve noticed that for every movie, asides the plot, characterization, scenes, structure, overall production and every other element it takes to successfully make a film, I think one extra underrated element should be the sound track.

It’s my first time posting with this community and I’m excited about this topic idea because it particularly piqued my interest.

Have you ever concluded seeing a movie and catch yourself humming the film soundtrack once a while.
Or whenever you overhear a certain intro or outro theme song you immediately recognize what movie is playing even without actually seeing it.
Well this is exactly what I’m talking about and if you do relate to these agenda then great because you’ll relate to this article as well.

Adding to that, i myself am not spared because I’m also very much guilty as charged.
I enjoy watching both movies and series a lot and aside the plot twists and drama scenes, another important element for me in a good movie or series is the soundtracks.

One of a few perfect examples would be the GOT (Game of Thrones) series and their theme songs, although the series on its own is undeniably goated but one thing that further makes it stand out to me is their sound tracks. There are over twenty soundtrack for every season. Ranging from when there is to be a dramatic entrance, the killings, a kings entrance, love scenes, lust scenes etc. there’s just about an unexplainable spice they add to the scenes.
Even the intro theme song, there is no way anybody cannot recognize the music if it’s playing in the background even if you’ve completed the series or not.

Moreover another illustration of a series that I just love and adore their soundtrack is Jane the Virgin. In fact this particular one takes the win in my books.
Upon writing this paragraph now I’m already humming the theme song. It really lives in my head rent free.

I already wrote a review on this series here so I’ll spare myself the stress lol.
Anyway adding to the romantic vibes that this movie already emanates, the sound track though! The sweet sound track just gets you there. Adds majorly to the aesthetics.
There are so many sound tracks in this movie and they all were placed to fit every vibe.
Just like GOT too, from an entrance, lust scenes, love scenes, fighting, evil plotting etc.
One of my favorites though would be the sound track for Jane’s love scenes.

Listen to this From minute 3:20.

With this track especially, I fell in love with the movie even more. Sometimes I get goosebumps or even emotional!
That’s how much effect sound tracks add to enjoying a movie or series.

I remember a scene in Jane the Virgin where her fiancé that lost his memory as at the time and after all her efforts of helping him regain his memory, finally got it back.
If I remember correctly, Jane was to meet him up. Then upon her entrance, they cue the music and the way it just added to the atmosphere made the moment really magical. Words have failed me to explain the mood it set me in but I loved it.

I cannot imagine watching a movie without a sound track and not just any misplaced sounds but one that fits the mood of course.
Imagine a bride in her lovely full length white dress flowing from the waist down. About walking to meet her groom with her father right by her side receiving her arm while guiding her all the way through to the alter. For such sensational moment, without a fitting sound track I doubt it will be so sensational after all.
It’ll just be a regular bride walking down the isle, with no other sound than her heels hitting the floor and the audience probably awwing and gasping as they’re expected to.

One word comes to mind - Boring!

Moreover, back to my favorite romance movie of all time - Jane the Virgin. Not only was the different sound tracks a fave but I’m also yet to see another romance movie that has topped it in that aspect.

Have you seen a movie with an incredible sound track you just instantly fall in love with? Don’t worry you’re not a weirdo, we’re in this together haha!
Meanwhile I’d love to know what movie that is.

Thanks for reading!

I think there is not enough recognition and the composer of movie sound track are not well appreciated enough which is not good

I agree with you.
To me the credibility of a good movie lies on the soundtrack.

Exactly! Film composers deserve much more recognition!

Well at least, film composers that aren't john williams or Hanz Zimmer lol XD

I loved game of thrones and the soundtracks were epic. I never watched Jane the virgin, I don’t know why but I’ve never been interested.

You're not a weirdo at all, I love movie soundtracks! Alas, the real geniuses behind them - the film composers - tend to not be given enough credit for their work.

Well, apart from the likes of Hanz Zimmer and John Williams of course

I think my most favorite soundtracks would be from the movies: La La Land, Star wars, Joker, and War of the planet of the apes. Oh and of course, let's not forget all the Disney Pixar animations ever created! Oh man, I still cry anytime I hear the theme from Up

Don't come for me but I'm part of the weirdos that are yet to see Star Wars but in my defense, I somehow know the soundtracks. These film composers do deserve much more credit.

Compared to la la land though I’d take the sounds of The greatest show man over it any day!
Omg how could I forget UP.

Please tell me these composers at least have their own awards!?

You haven't seen star wars? Damn... May the force be with you then XD

True, the greatest showman did have some pretty memorable and iconic songs in it but when it comes to the overall scoring of the two films then, La La Land takes the cake for me.

How could you have?!!

And absofuckinlutely! The scoring of all the movies were sooo damn great, that both Michael Giachinno(Up), Justin Hurwitz(La La Land), and Hildur Guðnadóttir's(Joker) all won Oscars for best original Score in a movie.

Now that, puts a smile on my face

To answer your question, yes I have! I love movies that feature good music in the performance. One of my favorite movie is The Greatest Showman.🥰

Soundtracks are one of the things that keeps me glued to a movie till the end. I always have a book and pen at hand when watching movies o I can write down the part of the lyrics I heard or the title of the songs if stated and I always search for them and add them to my playlist.😁

Hahaha I've seen my online twin 😂
The Greatest showman undeniably has one of the best sound tracks ever! And I also have their playlist, especially Tightrope. Gosh I love that song so much.

You are so true in that music is super important for a movie, serie or whatever video format we talk about. Music is so powerful it can make or break a movie/series or whatnot. Already from a very young age I started to buy a soundtrack, first on tape, then on CD. Back when I was a teenager, I got already bored by the mainstream music on radio, and discovered my love for instrumental music, as well as the dramatic classical and modern classical genres. I can say, I was part of that tiny niche of music fans that did (and still do) appreciate music for video a whole lot, and also spend quite a bit of money to purchase said music. Recently I saw a little test done in a documentary: showing a piece of video to two groups of people. One group was watching the video with some more or less happy-sounding music, the other group with a more dramatic sounding music. The first group thought the scene showed was about a guy meeting a girl and ending up agreeing to a date. The second group thought the scene was part of a horror movie in which the guy is about the do serious harm to the girl. That's the power of music when going along with a video! ;)

Such a genius test! This tells everything, movie soundtracks and the composers as well deserve so much credit.
Thanks for this wonderful comment.

The theme songs in G.O.T made the series goated forever...I have seen several classical covers, you made me remember one very mad one during the Nightwalker war...
This song in Jane the Virgin is a very nice song although I have not seen the movie...but it would bang...

Welcome to the community 🥳

The soundtrack in GOT was so good, even someone who hasn't seen the movie ought to have recognized or heard it somewhere.
Jane the Virgin also is on another level!
Thanks for the welcome 😊

I can't help but smile the entire time I'm reading this blog. Without music, no film or television series will be entertaining. Me too experience what they call, "LSS or last song syndrome" HAHAHA. Thank you for sharing by the way. I really enjoyed reading 💛
