This is my entry for the ecoTrain QOTW Season 8.6 FINALE: What Prevents Action?

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog at this hour. Last week, in my response to the question of the week titled - What is the best kind of action? - I pointed out how societal imbalance is posing a great problem to the society and I made specific comments on bullying among students which is caused by some sets of students intentionally hurting their colleagues or junior colleagues with words of mouth or even through their actions. Bullying is common all around the world and there are levels to this insane act, in other words, some bullying could cause emotional damage while others can cause physical damages, which may even lead to death. So, what prevent the necessary actions against bullying? Well, sit back, relax and enjoy all that I have packaged for your reading pleasure.

Societal imbalance such as bullying has eaten deep into our society and it is more alarming that it is becoming rampant among young children in Secondary schools. This madness called bullying will be nothing to worry about if parents have taken the full responsibility to educate their children about healthy living with each other. So many parents have failed in their responsibility towards their children and that is the cause of so many societal vices in our world today. The home is the first institution of learning and parents are the first teachers that kids learn from. A child would not go to school to either bully his colleague emotionally or physically if s/he was well trained from home.

The bulk of the blames will be on the head of parents because it is what you sow that you will reap. Most parents do not have time to attend to the needs of their children, all in the name of work, work and work. They leave the children at tender age with nannies in the house and come back late in the night without even asking questions about who the child spent lunch hours with, where he went to after school, who is best friend is and so on. Interacting with your child will enable you to know them better and know what they are up to in school.

As if that isn't enough, some parents put their children in boarding school for a whole year without taking time to visit and get to know their present condition. These nonchalant attitudes are the major cause of societal values that we experience in the world today. If the foundation is good, no external influences can change a child.

On the other hand, as a parent, ask yourself if you act by example. Do not let us decieve ourselves, no matter how young a child is, he or she can interpret what is happening in their environment. Kids are very smart. Imagine, as a father and mother, you wake up every morning abusing each other, shouting at the top of your voice and even beating each other in the presence of your kids, thinking they are too young to decipher what's going on. Don't be shocked when your kids teacher reports him or her for using some of the abusive words you use at home to his colleagues or even teachers. Don't be surprised when your child starts beating his or colleague in school. They learnt it from you - the parents.

These are the some of the factors that are preventing bullying from being eradicated in our society. There are tons of other factors but parental irresponsibility is the major one, in my opinion.
