IT'S CASHEW SEASON AGAIN

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog at this hour. Cashew is a seasonal nut and it's back once again. It is that time of the year once again that fresh cashews can be seen in the market in their numbers at affordable prices. If you are in an area where the fruits are growing you do not have to pay a penny to enjoy some juicy cashew.

Luckily, cashew can be grown in almost all states in Nigeria but some states are blessed with bountiful growth which makes them a hot spot for mass production for export purposes. Well, sit back, relax and enjoy all that I have packaged for your reading pleasure.

Growing up, each cashew season is one I always look forward to owing to the fact that I grew up in a community where most households have their mini farms close to the house, so all sorts of fruits and vegetables are always at my disposal. I didn't start buying some certain things until after I left the university because we had them in our garden then and I attended university in my town of residence. From all sorts of vegetables, plantain, mango, cashew, sugar cane, banana, pawpaw, pineapple etc, we all have them planted in our garden in their seasons.

Cashew is used for different purposes ranging from medicinal to industrial to household uses. Most people buy cashews only for the consumption of the cashew apple that are attached to the nut, the nuts are disposed afterwards. Meanwhile, the cashew nuts that are packaged in fancy bags that are sold in the stores are got from these nuts that are not valued by a lot of people. However, companies that make products from cashews may not necessarily start picking nuts from the streets, they would have farmers who supply them in large quantities, and they will start the processing from the scratch to ensure the best possible hygienic practices.

The cashew business is a lucrative one with farmers who produce them in large scale export them to other countries for sale. Nigeria is a leading producer of cashew for export purposes. Cashew is a seasonal goods that are in season from late January till around June every year, these are the periods when the fresh nuts are out there but farmers preserve them for export all through the year.

There is no part of a cashew that is a waste. Every part is useful for one thing or another,from the cashew apple, to the cashew nuts, to the cover of the nuts etc.
