Can ANGER be HEALTHY?

avatar

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog at this hour. Anger is an emotional state that many people prefer to subdue rather than expressing it, or probably they do not know the right way to express it in an healthy manner. Anger is a feeling that is felt by most people but at different levels, this is based on each person's ability to control it. We often get angry for various reasons which sometimes we do not totally understand which could range from someone triggering the past experience you are trying to forget or another person doing something you do not like to you. Well, sit back, relax and enjoy all that I have packaged for your reading pleasure.

Anger can be triggered when you do not get what you want, when or how you want it. Or when a judgment is passed against you in a bias manner such as your boss punishing you for something that your colleague did or your parent scolding you for an offense you didn't commit. These unfair treatments can trigger anger in people. Anger is a feeling that could start subtly then build its way up to full rage if it is not properly controlled. A feeling of anger could also be awakened when you are dissatisfied with your present condition such as being broke or bored.

Causes of anger may include:

  • Unfair treatment
  • Disrespect and disregard for you
  • Physical assault
  • Hopelessness
  • Lack of money
  • Emotional heartbreak
  • Powerlessness
  • Stress

The feeling of anger can take different forms which may include shouting, yelling, hitting people or objects, using abusive words, isolating from others or even harming oneself. In some extreme cases, some people prefer to be quiet when they are angry. Being silent when you are angry could be even more serious than expressing it. A person that yells, shouts and use abusive words may feel some relief when they express their anger but the person who subdue the anger may have a plan of retaliating when you are not even expecting and it could be deadly. It is better to express your anger rather than bottling it up. Bottling up can also affect you and your emotions on a long term if not quickly addressed.

It is quite difficult for some people to manage their anger in an healthy way because they grew up in a toxic environment where their parents are always fighting, abusing each other day in, day out. These are experiences that can affect the emotions of a child from childhood to adulthood. The first step to managing this form of anger issues that is caused from the unhealthy environment that a person grow up from is to admit to the fact that you didn't learn how to be angry in the right way. You'd have to change your mentality towards anger. You can seek help from a therapist to put you through this journey.

But, is anger healthy?

Anger can be healthy when it is used towards solving problems rather than compounding it. The moment you are able to control yourself and your speech when you are angry, then you anger may be seen as healthy. Anger becomes unhealthy when you talk or act without thinking and letting your emotions get the better of you.
