Art Study - Amber

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my Art blog!✨

I want to share this portrait study I made a few days ago. I searched the reference pose here on Pinterest. Also, the process I'll be sharing is a screenshot from my screen record since I don't usually record and save every step when I do art studies because I always do a lot of experimentation. I sometimes fail or change the reference and make a new one. But this time I decided to screen-record my process and you can view it here.

I started with a sketch following the stylized proportions of Sam. I then used the lasso tool to paint the whole character with a base color. I then used a soft brush to paint the light and shadow parts and then put some details. Here, I haven't painted the hair yet because at that time I was still undecided about what to do with the hair, the one on the reference is kinda complicated for me.

So, I decided to follow the reference but only the general shape of the hair then added textures using the "hairbrush". I also painted the eyes and rendered the skin which is my favorite part of this process. I had fun determining and painting which part should I make the edge soft and hard to enhance the clarity and also to introduce the depths of some parts. I then added the linearts to add more textures and then used the hardlight blending mode to add those highlights. After painting everything, I used the liquefy tool to adjust some parts of the head making sure the proportions were balanced.
