Freelensing photography - For the "Awesome Nature - TRAVEL CONTEST #147"

Here is me again - two posts on the same day it's something-something ;-) I just saw this wonderful theme and decided to post my point of view about how nature is awesome, and how beautifully this can be reflected with black-and-white images.
I took this image using my favorite photography technique "freelensing" when my lens is not attached to the camera body. For this technique, I exclusively use the only old manual M42 mount lenses like Asahi and Helios. Check for more about it with #freelensnig tag.

That's a pretty neat picture!

Tell me more about freelensing, please. How does that work? Certainly the lens cannot be separated from the camera - wouldn't too much light sneak in?

Thank you Victor.
I use the M42 mount lenses with my Canon 5dmkii body.
I close the created "hole" with my hand as much as I can, but actually, this "light leak" is what I'm looking for. The light is entering inside only when there is very strong direct light to this open place, for example, light strobes during the shooting in darkness during the music events.
here is a great video explain :

That's a pretty neat idea. Thanks for sharing the video! I might have one or two M42 lenses downstairs - I definitely have some old manual Minolta lenses and an adaptor for a telescope. If I can ever find some time again I might give this a try!
