I TOOK A RISK THAT ALMOST COST ME MY EDUCATION.

The world we live in is full of risk, and if you're the kind of person who is unwilling to take any risks, then you're not fit and worthy to live among us. However, those who choose not to take risks are essentially living lives centered on scrubs and trivial activities that could just as easily be dismissed as inconsequential.

The benefit of taking chances is that they allow us to see the future we've imagined and allow us to learn and become aware of things in any case. Risk exposes us to a variety of options and things that may be advantageous to us and bring us luck or they may be detrimental to us, but either way risk are good and should be inculcated.

I've had a number of situations and circumstances where I've taken a risk in doing things over the years. While some of them worked out well for me and made me happy that I took the risk, I've also had other situations where the results were less than favorable. In both cases, I was able to learn my lesson and improve my understanding of what to take a risk on and what not to add to my risk list.

Without further ado, let me walk you through some of the risks I've taken in my life and how they affected me in those situations where I did so.

When I was an undergraduate, we were two weeks away from the start of our exams, and my dad sent me my school fees so I wouldn't be distracted from writing the exam. However, as I was getting ready to visit the school the following day to pay into the appropriate account, we received an announcement that the school's teaching and non-teaching staff had gone on strike, which meant I wouldn't be able to pay my school fees until the strike was over.

When the strike continued for more than two months without any indication that they would end it, I became broke because I failed to return home, despite my father's insistence that he wouldn't send me money to feed me during that time, because he asked me to come home, since we weren't doing anything in the school, I refuse d to yield, and In order to survive that time, I decided to take money from my school fees to buy some food items, but before I knew it, after taking the money for that, I found myself going there to take more and more money

By the time I realized what I had done, I had spent more than ₦40,000 of my ₦113,000 school fees. This was when reality hit me, and I was unable to even begin to think of a way to recover such a sizable sum of money. To make matters worse, the strike was called off, and a new exam date was scheduled.

I started skipping classes to work odd jobs as a waitress, a laborer, and the like, but after all that I was able to collect, I still needed about ₦25,000 to pay for my school fees. I told my friends about my situation, but at first none of them were able to help, so most of the time when exams start, I'm being guided out of the exam room along with other students who didn't pay their fees.

Fortunately for me, before our third paper, a close friend of mine, Deborah, told her boyfriend about my situation. He, being a working-class man, gave me the 25,000 I needed to complete my school fees, and I can pay back to my friend Deborah whenever I have the money. I quickly ran to pay to the proper channel, and that is how I was able to complete my exam without any problems.

It was a very horrible experience for me before I received the money because I didn't even have the courage to tell my parents what I had done. Thank God, though, for friends like Deborah; you'll be surprised to learn that she has refused to take back the money her boyfriend lent me when I tried to return it.

After that event, I continued to take risks, but I learned from it and since then I never joke with things that I consider significant and crucial to my life and education.

Thank you for reading my blog; it pretty much sums up my experience taking risks. You may read @kronias post for more information on what inspired my writing.

I had a similar experience during my national diploma days, I had to sell my phone in order to recover the funds, it was an unpleasant experience.

Oh it's a terrible experience to have, you were luck to have a good phone to sell, mine was stolen before then, so I was only using a small Nokia phone during the period.

You're welcome, it's all good.

The risk you took was quite huge, how would you have explained it to your parents.

Thank God you had someone like Deborah.

Eeyah... That was a big risk indeed. And if not for Deborah, your schooling might have been greatly affected. It all worked out in the end. But then, that is what risks is usually all about, teaching us something we don't know. We can only hope that what we learn is not something that will hurt us for a long time.

Thank you for sharing this with us.
