"Why'd you do it, Carl?" asked Sean as he eyed a man named Carl who was tied up on a chair.

"I just did what needed to be done," answered Carl without a hint of fear or remorse.

"Bullshit!" Sean slammed his hand on the table. He then added, "John is one of the few good men left in the Society. He didn't deserve what happened to him!"

Carl stared at Sean's eyes after hearing him depend John's honor, but didn't say anything and simply closed his eyes. Silence filled the room after that.

"The Society wants you dead, Carl," Sean finally said after the long silence.

Hearing that, Carl finally opened his eyes and said, "I'm not afraid of death. The Society can do whatever they want to me."

Sean took out a cigarette from his breast pocket and lit it. He was getting frustrated with what society was making him do.

"At least tell me why you do it, Carl," Sean pleaded after puffing out a smoke.

Carl stayed silent for a long time but eventually opened his mouth. "It's about what happened to Annie."

Sean suddenly stared at Carl with wide, open eyes and mouth, allowing the cigarette to fall to the ground.

"Annie? You don't mean..." Sean murmured in disbelief.

"John is not the person you think he is," said Carl before shutting his mouth tight again.

The room fell into silence again after that short exchange. Although not many words were uttered, the two men understood what it meant.

"If what you said is true, then John definitely deserved what you did to him," Sean finally said. "However, it won't change that what you did was wrong. I'm sorry, Carl, but...

"I've already prepared myself for any punishment when I decided to act against John," Carl said calmly. "Do what you must; just make it quick."

"Forgive me...."

Sean then pulled out a gun from his coat and pointed it at Carl. A few seconds later, a gunshot was heard from the room.
