Review Greenland 2: It wasn't what I expected 🙃. [Eng/Esp]

Hello, fans of end-of-the-world films!

I hope you are all well. I have been busy because the end of the semester is approaching and, therefore, final exams, so I haven't been able to be as active; even so, there is always time for a film, especially to clear your mind for a while, and this is a film I wanted to see since I heard about its release. This film is called: Greenland 2: Migration.

This film is the sequel to Greenland, which I really liked. I reviewed it and knew there would be a sequel, which would be released earlier this year. When I saw the trailer, I liked it because I wanted to know what happened after, well, the end of the world. It's not common for these types of films to have sequels, but I have to say... I didn't like it very much.

I'm not saying it was a bad film, but honestly, it wasn't what I expected, and when I compare it to the first one, I feel like it falls short. But to give a little more context, the film takes place five years after John, Allison, and Nathan Garrity arrive at the Greenland shelter just before the great Clark comet hits the Earth.

Having spent the last few years in a bunker that was dying, they were exploring the idea of leaving, along with other shelters, but due to the comet's impact, the area where they were located was contaminated by radiation and the planet's climate had been severely affected. But after a strong earthquake caused by the movement of tectonic plates destroyed the bunker, they had no choice but to leave.

Hundreds of people managed to get out, but there were only three boats, which were small and could only hold a few people. After the Garrity family managed to get on board, a huge tsunami formed. Now the Garrity family embarks on a journey to find the place where Comet Clark crashed, based on the theory that this place is habitable.

Now, why I didn't like it: the son, Nathan. I understand that he is a teenager, but complaining about living in a bunker that saved your life is silly and a total lack of awareness, especially when his parents suffered to get him there when he couldn't get in because of his illness. Secondly, even if you wear an anti-radiation suit, if you are exposed to so much radiation, you can contract acute radiation syndrome or cancer, which is what happens to John, so he has limited time to take his family to Clark, and although his struggle and sacrifice are noble, why on earth would you expose yourself to so much radiation that it could kill you and leave your family behind? But spoiler alert, he doesn't die from it.

The film had several inconsistencies, such as the fact that when they went out into the world, there were people everywhere, even at war; there were battalions fighting fiercely with another battalion there, when it was said in the first film that the comet would destroy everything, plus there was no context given as to what the rest of the world was like.

And there was a scene that was so, so silly. I mean, you're going to protect your car, a possession that seems more important than your life (according to a character in the film), using your body as a shield. It's obvious that this happened so that the protagonists could get transport because, of course, the car was left perfectly intact.

It was a bit boring. I thought it would be, I don't know, more apocalyptic and dramatic, At least the special effects and the gloomy atmosphere were good. I didn't feel the same excitement that the first one provoked. In general, there were certain inconsistencies and a weak script. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's not better than the first one. Still, you can watch it for a while if there's nothing else on.

Espero que se encuentren bien. He estado ocupada debido a que se acerca el fin de semestre y, por ende, los exámenes finales, por lo que no he podido estar tan activa; aun así, siempre hay tiempo para una película, sobre todo para despejarse un rato, y esta es una película que yo quería ver desde que supe de su estreno. Esta película se llama: Greenland 2: Migration

Esta película es la secuela de Greenland, la cual me gustó mucho, le hice reseña y supe que tendría secuela, que se estrenaría a inicios de este año. Cuando vi el tráiler, me gustó porque quería saber qué pasaba después de, bueno, el fin del mundo. Y no es común que este tipo de películas tengan continuación; aun así debo decir… que no me gustó mucho.

No digo que fuera una mala película, pero sinceramente no fue lo que esperaba y si la comparo con la primera siento que se queda corta. Pero dando un poco más de contexto, la película se situa 5 años después de que Jhon, Allison y Nathan Garrity llegan al refugio de Groenlandia justo antes de que el gran cometa Clark impactará contra la tierra.

Viviendo los últimos años en un búnker que estaba agonizando, estaban junto con otros refugios explorando la idea de salir, pero debido al impacto del cometa la zona en dónde se encontraban estaba contaminada por la radiación y el clima del planeta había sido gravemente afectado. Pero tras un fuerte temblor causado por el movimiento de las placas tectónicas que provoca la destrucción del búnker no les queda otra que salir.

Lograron salir cientos de personas, pero solo había 3 botes, la cuestión es que eran pequeños y tenían capacidad para pocas personas, y tras la familia Garrity lograr entrar, se forma un gran tsunami. Y ahora la familia Garrity se embarca en un viaje para encontrar el lugar donde se estrelló el cometa Clark por la teoría de que ese sitio es habitable.

Ahora bien, porque no me gustó, el hijo. Nathan, entiendo que es adolescente, pero quejarse por vivir en un búnker que salvó tu vida es una tontería y una total falta de conciencia, sobre todo cuando sus padres sufrieron para llevarlo ahí cuando él no podía entrar debido a su enfermedad. Segundo, por más que uses un traje antirradiación, si te expones tanto a ella, puedes contraer el síndrome de irradiación aguda o cáncer, que es lo que le sucede a Jhon, así que tiene el tiempo contado para llevar a su familia a Clark, y aunque su lucha y sacrificio es noble, ¿por rayos te expones tanto a la radiación que te puede matar y hacer que dejes a tu familia? Pero spoiler, no muere a causa de eso.

La película tuvo varias inconsistencias, como el hecho de que cuando salieron al mundo, había gente por todas partes, en guerra incluso; había unos batallones cayéndose a plomo con otro batallón ahí, cuando se dijo en la primera que el cometa destruiría todo, además de que no se dio contexto de cómo era el resto del mundo.

Y hubo una escena que fue tan pero tan tonta, es decir, vas a proteger tu carro, una posesión al parecer más importante que tu vida (según un personaje de la película), usando tu cuerpo como escudo; es obvio que eso pasó para que los protagonistas consiguieran transporte porque por supuesto el carro quedó perfecto.

Fue algo aburrida, pensé que sería, no sé, más apocalíptica y dramática Al menos los efectos especiales y la atmósfera sombría estaban bien.. No sentí esa emoción que provocaba la primera. En general, hubo ciertas inconsistencias y un guion flojo; no digo que sea mala, pero no es mejor que la primera; aun así, se puede ver un rato si no hay nada más.
