Curiosity is an emotion that we all feel when we want to experience new things or simply to know what it is, what it tastes like, what can you do with it?

We have all been curious at some point, not only to know what it tastes like or what texture has a food we have never tried, but also with people, when we meet someone we find interesting we always want to know more.

Now, in children it is much more frequent since it is their way of exploring the world, it fosters much better interpersonal relationships, it helps them to develop and grow as people, although sometimes it promotes a lot of mischief, it is part of their development and it is very healthy not to restrict their interest in the unknown, as long as it is something healthy.

My daughter Alison's development has been a little slow, she has had difficulties to talk, eat, chew, walk, she has had a hard time with those activities, she is 2 and a half years old and still does not speak, but she understands me very well, I am not worried because I am clear that each organism is different and according to the medical studies that have been done there is nothing wrong with her, she is just a little delayed.

Although she had problems learning to eat, she has already improved a lot, to walk she didn't need to crawl before, she only crawled with her little tail to move faster, but finally she did it at one year and eight months of life and it was very gratifying for me that moment.

When she started walking, her curiosity began to emerge, she constantly grabs everything that seems strange or interesting to her, and she always imitates what I do (she is very observant), and it is very normal for children of her age.

I am in the process of strengthening my patience and even more in these times when I am homesick, very nostalgic for not having my family around, and my new role as a mother, it is imperative that I take a deep breath in front of everything she does.

She loves to play with the water I recycle from the washing machine, I don't know at what time but she sneaks into the laundry room and once she even put her head in the little ankle with water (that day I almost had a heart attack), what is certain is that I have to have 2 extra eyes to keep an eye on her.

In order for her to learn to eat it was very important that she did it by herself according to her pediatrician's recommendations, since there was a time when she was about to become malnourished because she did not eat a bite; and that it was preferably with her hands (very clean of course), she usually grabbed the food, crushed it, felt it, smelled it and then if she wanted she tried it, that phase of experimenting helped her a lot to identify which foods she liked the most.

20220622_142836.jpg

I was recommended to start giving him literally everything, the more he ate the better, and give him what he liked the most, with that he began to gain weight and since he saw it as a game he began to learn to eat. That way I was incorporating little by little more proteins and a lot of carbohydrates that he was missing.

She also had an estimated time to experiment with food, if in 40 minutes she did not finish her portion of food she would save it for later, and so on until she improved so much that she likes to eat alone and some foods she prefers to eat with a spoon and many others with her hands. We are still working on her food preferences.

Her curiosity turns into learning every day, I constantly tell her the numbers from one to ten and to count them with her fingers or vowels, she still does not know how to differentiate between letters and numbers but she tries to say them (in her language hahaha). It occurred to me to give her a notebook with some crayons and the least she did was to draw there but on the wall, and to top it off white, I leave you the result.

20220622_143122.jpg

Life with her is never calm since she learned to walk (except when she sleeps in the afternoon), apart from her long days of non-stop jumping, touching my hair and saying mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy! at all hours, just for fun, she is super witty and lively.

Through everything she experiences while playing she always learns something different, she is a very curious and healthy child, she keeps experimenting with everything that comes to her mind and even though that causes her to do a lot of mischief I have to be patient and understanding with her since she is in the middle of her exploration stage.

Many mothers at the beginning may feel that it is difficult to control those impulses of a child to learn and know new things, the most important thing is not to stop them in the process but to help them to be as healthy as possible.

In fact curiosity has benefits in them, for example in Alison it helps her a lot with anxiety since she is a restless and very active child, the fact of exploring helps her to have healthy entertainment and also learns in the process.

20220621_193253.jpg

A very efficient way to help them with their curiosity is not to create fears or be over protective (it is very hard for me but I try), neither to create insecurities nor to tell them all the time "don't touch", "don't do it", nor to be rude and much less to hit them for everything.

This whole process has been a little intense for me but the most important thing is that she grows up healthy and happy but also independent and with good self-esteem; always accompanied by the company of parents or close relatives.
