When the Sun Dictates: Adapting To Our New School Schedule

I woke up at 4 AM MNL, for the reason that my son's elementary school decided to adjust the classes due to extreme heat. At a regular basis, my son and I prepare for school at 5 o'clock in the morning, but now, we totally mandated to arrive at school as early as 5:30 AM so they can go home at 10 in the morning. It is quiet fair to me since the adjusted time is more comfortable, unlike their old schedule, where you can observe those exhaustion of children who were studying in public classrooms with no proper ventilation and limited fans. I feel the discomfort of these kids and I really pity for them because there is also a pertussis outbreak and children are very prone on this kind of virus. I honestly was praying for adjusting the schedule and so grateful the school of my son did. So now, before I go to work, I could expect now that my son will return home at 10:30 in the morning, less exposure to kids and other people carrying a virus.

The new schedule was unexpected. Actually, it was already late at night when the teacher of my son announced the adjusted schedule for today and the following days. Fortunately, I read it immediately, so I informed my son right away that we need to sleep early at night so we can wake up early as well. Good thing my son woke up with no tantrums this morning, unlike before. And while walking on the way to his school, he told me, "mom, it's still nighttime; look at the moon!"—that's because the moon was still visible a while back and he thought he would be studying nightshift. 😆

Anyways, we arrived at his school very on time, but as expected, it really looked like some kids did not expect the immediate transition of their class time. Some, I guess, would be late.

I want to return to my routine every day, even though I have a job. I can still manage to take time for myself, and this is jogging home from my son's school. Some people always notice my belly fat, and I think it's a sign that I need to lose body fat.

The new morning schedule of my son seems to be good since the travel time is faster. Now, we don't have to have a race with those who go to work, and we don't have to go ahead of other passengers. I also enjoyed the morning breeze, as I only felt the windy air during this time. The streets were also quiet so I totally enjoy strolling.

When April came, the heat index here in the Philippines was rising, and some parts of the country felt a 43°C temperature. It really affects many people, mostly children. To be honest, the weather has been very worrying lately because just last week, we experienced very heavy rains, and only a few hours later we felt the extreme heat. I really am afraid of how far the heat index will reach that we will experience this month of April. I am really praying that the climate will improve because it is not only children who are affected the most. Elderly people who are prone to heatstroke and high blood pressure are also pitiful. Anyways, I know that as an ordinary citizen, I can only do limited things. But I hope that what is happening now will be an eye-opener for all of us that we should protect nature more because our children will also suffer in the future.

Have a blessed day ahead!

Ay oo, sinabi mo pa, ako nga kahit taong bahay lang hindi rin ganun ka-convenient para sa akin kasi busy din ako sa mga gawaing bahay.
