Vampire Knight: A Tragic Story

Hello, dear anime community! I hope you're all doing well. I wanted to take this opportunity to talk about a well-known anime, somewhat forgotten over time, that undoubtedly marked the childhood and adolescence of many of us. It existed long before Twilight and all the vampire novels, and it's a major cultural touchstone within the anime community. I'm talking about "Vampire Knight." I hope you enjoy it.

En este momento de oportunidad, quiero hablarles de un anime bastante conocido, pero algo olvidado con el tiempo, que sin duda marcó la infancia y adolescencia de muchos de nosotros. Existió mucho antes que Crepúsculo y todas las novelas de vampiros, y es un referente cultural altísimo dentro de la comunidad anime. Les estoy hablando de "Vampire Knight". Espero que les agrade.

The story begins ten years earlier, with our protagonist Yuki rescued from a vampire attack one winter night by Kaname Kuran, a pureblood vampire. She goes to live with the headmaster of Cross Academy, Kaien Cross, as his adopted daughter and serves as a guardian of the school. Her job is to protect the students of the Day Class and conceal the fact that the Night Class is composed of vampires (the academy's biggest secret), working alongside her childhood friend, Zero Kiryu, who is also a guardian.

La historia se remonta hace diez años, con nuestra protagonista Yuki que fue rescatada de un ataque vampírico en una noche de invierno por Kaname Kuran, un vampiro de sangre pura, pasa a vivir con el director de la Academia Cross, Kaien Cross, como su hija adoptiva, y ejerce como guardiana de la escuela. Su trabajo es proteger a los estudiantes de la Clase Diurna y ocultar que la Clase Nocturna está compuesta por vampiros (gran secreto de La academia), trabajando junto a su amigo de la infancia, Zero Kiryu, quien también es guardián.

However, Zero also faces an internal struggle and a deep hatred for vampires, since one of them massacred his family when he was a child and bit him. Thus, he is fighting against his own transformation into a rational vampire who goes berserk when he smells or sees blood, which further complicates his role as guardian of the academy and friend to Yuki. Furthermore, Yuki remembers absolutely nothing of her life since the age of five, so, as the plot unfolds, we see her discovering that her past has a significant connection to the vampire world and to Kaname, far more than she imagined. It is for this reason that he refuses to leave her and seeks to protect her (I won't give any more spoilers).

No obstante, Zero también enfrenta una lucha interna y un odio profundo hacia los vampiros, ya que uno de ellos masacró a su familia cuando era niño y lo mordió. Así, él está luchando contra su propia transformación en un vampiro racional que se vuelve loco cuando huele o ve sangre, lo que dificulta aún más su papel como guardián de la academia y amigo de Yuki. The wars between the Empirical hierarchy are intensifying. Nevertheless, the academy director dreams of a peaceful coexistence between vampires and humans, and therefore tries to foster good relations between the two sides of the academy. However, the desire of the higher-ranking vampires to treat humans merely as food and livestock is far stronger. This is just one of the many situations Yuki faces, discovering that neither she nor Zero are always pawns in a chess game.

Las guerras entre la jerarquía empírica se intensifican cada vez más. No obstante, el director de la academia sueña con una convivencia pacífica entre vampiros y humanos, y por eso intenta que ambos turnos en la academia se lleven bien. Sin embargo, el deseo de los vampiros de jerarquía más alta de tener a los humanos solo como comida y ganado es mucho más fuerte. Esta es una de las tantas situaciones a las que se enfrenta Yuki, descubriendo que tanto Zero como ella no son siempre piezas de ajedrez.

This anime is really good; I like it because it's a romance that combines gothic elements with the vampire stereotype, plus Zero's quite noticeable obsession and love for Yuki. Aside from that, I can say that the manga is absolutely excellent in every way. It's a shame that the anime differs so much from the original work; however, I recommend reading the manga first and then watching the anime.

Este anime es muy bueno; me gusta porque es un romance que combina lo gótico con el estereotipo de vampiros, además de una obsesión y amor bastante notable de Zero hacia Yuki. Muy aparte de esto, puedo decir que los mangas son absolutamente excelentes en todos los sentidos. Lástima que el anime difiere mucho de la obra original; sin embargo, recomiendo leer primero el manga y después ver el anime
