The Worst Restaurant in Slovakia?

A few days ago I posted this photo of the Slovenská Reštaurácia u Prasiatk in Brastislava and I wondered I it was empty. The outside looks very fancy and appealing. Very classy, even. So, why wasn't anyone there? 🤔

Well, I've found out that, not too long ago, this was confused with the Worst Reviewed Restaurant in Slovakia, according to Trip Advisor:

You can see the difference in the reviews... Food: 1.5 vs 3; Service: 2 vs 3;

These guys set out to eat the Worst Reviewed Restaurant in Slovakia, the Prasiatko, at Hviezdoslavovo namestie 225/26, Bratislava but they ended up eating at the U Prasiatka, at Rybarska brana 8, Bratislava.

The restaurant signs are quite similar and so is the name. I can see why they got confused. 😆

Oh, boy... this is hilarious. How can they do such a mistake, in their own city?

The video is very comical, these guys are really something. I have been laughing a lot with their reviews.

Nevertheless, the restaurant wasn't as good as it looked and the prices are inflated for the tourists. Even the waiter admitted it at the end, saying:

  • "You should have told us you were from Slovakia, we wouldn't charge the service fee. It's already expensive for Slovaks."

I never cared much about online reviews. When I'm traveling I simply pick a restaurant that looks nice and has a nice food smell coming from inside... I also check to see if it has a few customers and if they seem to be happy.

That has been working well so far. But from now on, I'll start paying attention to the reviews to see if there are some major red flags, before entering!

Stealing tourists deliberately like this? Unacceptable. 😤

If it were not for that detail, I have no doubts that they would have a much higher rating, more customers... and thus, could even raise their prices a bit. Most people don't mind paying a little extra for quality but they hate being ripped off. 🙄

I recently experienced that in my own country (Hungary). But I was curious, so I ordered a Gyros. It was not only expensive, but actually worse than the ones I used to order. So an expensive restaurant is not always better than the cheaper ones.

I do not mind watching/reading reviews if I am traveling to places, although I think it is subjective.
Most of the time though, especially when travelling alone, I prefer supermarkets/wholefood so even if I find a place with a good review, I desist.

I have heard many stories of people being ripped off in Italy. >:Z
So I think it's common practice. Shameful!

Had a similar experience in India too at Clark's Inn. But they will never admit they would wave off the service tax 😊
I personally call him and said the food was good but your service was a 1* and I wont review on google this time 😆

Hahaha.. that's funny. I remember there is a complain about food's price around the famous tourism resort in Jogjakarta, but then local government establish a system where people can fill the complain and then the officer will warn the food sellers. It's part of tourism services. But.. in my hometown, things like this happens for a new visitors too😂 not just tourists.. you need to come with a regular customer to get the best price and services.

Weird. Been in Bratislava a few times and always enjoyed the food there.
Interesting is this "tourist fee". Since I've been born in Czech Republic and speak Czech fluently I maybe dodged this fee so far...

Yeah, I read about your previous post about this restaurant and thought tourist would have at least patronized them instead the already know eatries.

Now I know the reason behind it. Business names could really affect a business. Why the heck do they have closely related names?🤔

Thank you for you post and for your advice before entering a restaurant. I always give a look to this voting pages, but we should also be careful with votes on this pages. At some pages they don't look if this people are real visitors or fake one!!

I few days ago I was watching a documentary about fake votes on voting platforms. They were opening a fake restaurant and bought fake votes to promote it. They made a good rated restaurant out of it. Funny stuff about it is it was not a restaurant. Inside it was smelling, it was dirty and no guest was inside the fake restaurant. So a high rated restaurant must not always be good!
