Tribal marks is said to be a specific identification and beautification designed on the face or body of a particular person commonly among the yoruba people from western Nigeria in Yoruba culture,
tribal marks are inscribed on the body by burning or cutting the skin during child birth or infancy
Like i said that the tribal marks are scarifications and are specific for identifying and beautification The tribal marks are part of the Yoruba cultures

Functions of the tribal marks

  • The primary function of the tribal marks is for identification of a person's tribe, family or patrilineal heritage.
  • Also the marks are symbols of beauty,
  • It also serve as a local power to prevent and keeping mischievous children alive
  • It is creativity
    This practice was popular among Yoruba people of Nigeria and some other parts of Africa 🌍 like Benin and Togo source
    Also the tribal marks also play a very key and important role in the slave trade
    During the trans-Atlantic slave trade,
    The tribal identification and facial stripes became very important after that period
    However the practice is fading up due to civilization and moderation to some people they see it as wickedness and they Kick against the act but till today in some part of the country they see it necessary and important due to the role it has played to identifying there people anywhere they go around the world.
