Looks like an image for Halloween, right friends?
But no, it is a detail of my work that I made for a collective exhibition of Fiber Art in Parma, last September....hahaha
I posted it as the main image and I modified with Gimp to make it more scarier.....more suitable for this event
I have reserved it for this occasion because it seems appropriate for this period, even if it has nothing in common with Halloween.

Invece no, è un dettaglio del lavoro che ho realizzato per una mostra collettiva di Fiber Art a Parma, lo scorso settembre.....hahaha
L' ho postato come immagine principale e l'ho modificato con Gimp per renderla più spaventosa.....più adatta all'evento.
L'ho riservato per questa occasione perché mi sembra appropriato per questo periodo, anche se non ha nulla in comune con Halloween.

It is a textile sculpture, a pillow, but not a common pillow.....it represents DEATH.

È una scultura tessile, un cuscino, ma non un cuscino comune....esso rappresenta la MORTE.

This is the projec.
In detail it may seem horrifying, it was for an ecological themed exhibition. Originally it was call “I'm a little furious bee” by Alda Merini, a great italian poet.
The title of the exhibition was "ECO-HOPE" and I thought about doing something different even though I didn't know what,I thought about climate problems. Then I was reminded of the Renaissance period when in many paintings the painters used to paint a cushion at the foot of sacred images. The pillow in the Renaissance iconography depicted the death. It had symbolic value because alluded to passion and death of Jesus Christ.
So I decided to make a pillow and to put insects on it. I took different fabrics, as a base I chose one with a classic floral pattern, then above I chose a solid color, an olive green color that I cut in the shape of leaves and I sewed them over.

Questo è il progetto.
Nel dettaglio può sembrare terrificante, era per una mostra a tema ecologico. In origine si chiamava “Sono una piccola ape furibonda” di Alda Merini, una grande poetessa italiana.
Il titolo della mostra era "ECO-HOPE" e ho pensato di fare qualcosa di diverso anche se non sapevo cosa, ho pensato ai problemi climatici. Poi mi è tornato in mente il periodo rinascimentale quando in molti quadri i pittori usavano dipingere un cuscino ai piedi delle immagini sacre. Il cuscino nell'iconografia rinascimentale raffigurava la morte. Aveva valore simbolico perché alludeva alla passione e morte di Gesù Cristo.
Così ho deciso di fare un cuscino e di metterci sopra degli insetti. Ho preso diversi tessuti, come base ne ho scelto uno con un classico motivo floreale, poi sopra ho scelto una tinta unita, un colore verde oliva che ho tagliato a forma di foglie e le ho cucite sopra.

I put the tassels on the four corners

Ho messo le nappe ai quattro angoli

Then i take other materials as wire, fabrics, beads and I started to do some insects like spiders, bees, butterfly, dragonfly, ants, beetles etc. and sewed them on top, filling the pillow

Poi ho preso altri materiali come filo, stoffe, perline e ho iniziato a fare degli insetti ragni, api, farfalle, libellule, formiche, scarafaggi ecc. e li ho cuciti sopra, riempiendo il cuscino

As an explanation of the work:“It is not a positive vision on our future but on the contrary. The pillow as a Christian symbol of eternal rest, represents death.
As scientists tell us, pesticides, urbanization and climate change will cause the future extinction of these small creatures and this will lead to a catastrophic collapse of natural ecosystems”.

Come spiegazione del lavoro:“Non è una visione positiva sul nostro futuro ma al contrario. Il cuscino come simbolo cristiano del riposo eterno, rappresenta la morte.
Come ci dicono gli scienziati, i pesticidi, l'urbanizzazione e il cambiamento climatico causeranno la futura estinzione di queste piccole creature e questo porterà a un catastrofico collasso degli ecosistemi naturali».

The exhibition was in the Sala Baganza Fortress, a small town in the province of Parma, Italy

I must say that my pillow was not very successful because the hasty visitors did not stop to read the meanings of the works, in fact I have not won any prizes

Devo dire che il mio cuscino non ebbe molto successo perché i visitatori frettolosi non si fermavano a leggere i significati delle opere, infatti non ho vinto nessun premio.
