Bangkok City by Day doing the Skyline Tour.

(Edited)
Last week Tuesday when I flew back from Surat Thani Airport after being on Koh Samui Island for almost a week I arrived back at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport in the later afternoon and had decided I wanted to stay in Bangkok city for about a week for two reasons the last month I was in Bangkok city it was only for the weekend and I wanted to see more of the huge city and I was in no hurry to get back home to my province being Jomtien Beach in Pattaya.

Once I landed at Suvarnabhumi International Airport you can either take a meter taxi into Bangkok city which will cost you about $10 US distance to the city is about 25km or you can take the Airport Link Train Line, which is what I did its not only cheaper and you don't get caught up in traffic jams more enjoyable only costing you $1.40 US and you get to see the Bangkok city views while riding the train.

Airport Train Link and City views along the way.

57.jpg

56.jpg

58.jpg

The journey on the train to the city center will take about 30 minutes stopping at a few stations still faster and cheaper than a taxi, providing you only have a small amount of luggage not convenient if you have a load of big suitcases as you need to climb stairways to get connecting trains to your hotel once you have reached the city center but then you can always take a meter taxi to your hotel once you have reached the city center just downstairs from the terminating station of the Airport Link Train.

66.jpg

59.jpg

You might have noticed the glare in these first few photos only because I was taking them from the inside of the train, what I found interesting was how there were many farms to be seen and not far out of this big city, it was interesting to see the old buildings and the new buildings all blending in giving that charm of an Asia country, the other thing I noticed was how flat Bangkok cityscape is you can see for miles when your riding on these Skytrains above the city very interesting views of the city.

62.jpg

61.jpg

69.jpg

70.jpg

68.jpg

I only had a backpack and my laptop with me and according to my Google map if I took the connecting BTS Skytrain from the Airport Link Station called Phaya Thai for about six stops I would be a 5-minute walking distance to my hotel so I jumped on the BTS Sukhumvit line at Phaya Thai station which cost me $1 US and I was at BTS Station Nana within 10 minutes and Google map been right I was at my hotel ready for dinner within no time.

10.jpg

It had been a long day of traveling I was not much feeling like walking around the city I thought I would just stay in the street of where my hotel was grab something to eat and have a relaxing night saving my energy for tomorrow's big tour around Bangkok City. I settled for a nice street vendors pork and noodle soup that was so yummy that I had to have a second one only costing me $3 US for the two of them.

13.jpg

80.jpg

The following day I had planned to do a tour along Bangkok's main river the Chao Phraya River you can take taxi boats along this river for a minimum fee of 50c US and a maximum fee of no more than $1 US depending on how many piers you want to stop at but unfortunately, Bangkok had some severe monsoon rains causing the river to rise to high levels and strong currents, so no taxi boats were operating, disappointed but not much I could do about that so I opt to walk up to the Sathon Bridge and view the Chao Phraya River from the top of the bridge.

Chao Phraya River and Sathon Bridge.

)

19.jpg

20.jpg

As you can see the weather was still gloomy and the river was at a higher level than normal they had sandbags all around the Sathon Pier but despite that, I was enjoying the views from up on top of this bridge the tower in the background the with the golden dome on top is the State Tower this tower was in the film Hangover 2 with the helicopter hovering over the tower and the other building on the right is known as the Ghost Tower a multi million-dollar condominium project with the best views over the river and Bangkok city it was abandoned in the early 90's due to the world financial crisis.

76.jpg

22.jpg

21.jpg

23.jpg

The Chao Phraya River will have to wait till my next trip to Bangkok after the monsoon period I would say anyway after seeing some breathtaking views from the Sathon Bridge, I walked back to Saphan Taksin BTS Station and when about five stations got off at Chong Nonsi BTS Station, in this area you will see the most beautiful Skyscrapers and the Chong Nonsi pedestrian walkway bridge.

24.jpg

38.jpg

)

37.jpg

26.jpg

Chong Nonsi Sathorn Silom area, is the central business center of Bangkok and it is here that you will find the most beautiful iconic skyscrapers of Bangkok, like the MahaNakhon Tower Bangkok’s tallest building rising to a height of 314 meters also known as the Lego Building and the Chong Nonsi Pedestrian Bridge which sees thousands of commuters everyday walking across this spectacular bridge spreading across one of the biggest and busiest intersection in Bangkok city, which connect commuters with the BTS Skytrain station and MRT underground train station.

48.jpg

Chong Nonsi Sathorn Silom area is one of the most expensive districts to live in having world class hotels, world banks and exclusive condominium buildings. I was fortunate enough to see these skyscraper cleaners hanging from the Sathon Squre Skyscraper looking like little ants crawling down a tall mountain was a spectacular scene to see.

39.jpg

From Chong Nonsi Sathorn Silom, I boarded the Skytrain again to see what else I would find of interest riding high above the streets of Bangkok and not far down the track I switched from the Silom Line back to the Sukhumvit Line and not far down this track I saw this golden glass building reflecting in the afternoon blue sky I just had to get of and check this skyscraper out did I tell you I am crazy on skyscrapers I was now at the Ratchathewi district another high end of Bangkok city.

This magnificent structure is called the Spring Tower, also known as the WeWork Tower, its a tower with massive work-spaces where global network of companies come together to create new ideas everyday and their are many classy high end restaurants in this area to satisfy any global traveler.

8.jpg

I spend from morning to late evening traveling around on Skytrains thinking I had seen a lot of Bangkok city today but coming to think of it I hadn't even touched the tip of the iceberg there are two Skytrain lines in Bangkok the Sukhumvit Line and the Silom Line together combining 52 stations and I think I traveled about 15 stations not including the Airport Link train into Bangkok city so you can imagine how much more I need to see of this beautiful city and the best way to do that is by Skytrain buy yourself a daily BTS ticket costing you $4 US dollars and you can jump on and off all day long on these Skytrains but for now I hope you enjoyed this part of the Skyline Tour till next time you all take care.

Oh that took me back to my only 4 days (so far) in Bangkok too and I loved it!

I stayed at Lat Krabang just near the airport and loved absolutely every moment and everything about the place!

thanks so much for sharing and I'm so glad that you got to go back to see more of it too!

Haaa Unfortunately far too long ago- 2014 flew into BKK from Melbourne, 4 days there, then down to the Petchaburi province to volunteer at an animal sanctuary up in the mountains from Cha Am, then down and across to Koh Yao Noi and flew back via a few last hours in Phuket.

I LOVE Thailand. I've only been the twice but can't wait to go back and (maybe live there one day just volunteering in animal sanctuaries...

You certainly did a bit of traveling while you were here I did Cha Am and Hun Hin nearly 2 months ago loved it there, I have been living here nearly 4 years now and really I don't want to go back home to Sydney so boring and expensive over there and like you say I myself would love to live here the people are great the food is awesome and an cheaper country to live in.

Yes but no where near enough roads covered!

So many more places to go and see, I haven't even been up north of BKK yet and dying to go up around Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai area...

Loved Hua Hin and Cha Am too, so much to love about the country and you say you've been living there for 4yrs now, you lucky, LUCKY bugger!

What took you there f/t? Work or just travel and where are you living?

So right many places to see, I have not seen much myself actually work has kept me really busy I restore muscle cars for a big restoration body building auto shop in Pattaya city and they also build Cobra cars. It's only been the past couple of months that I have been taking time off to travel around but also looking for muscle cars to buy for my boss while I am traveling around.

Myself I am living on the beach front in Jomtien beach go for a jog and a swim every morning it's the life over here amazing and beautiful no complaints from me 😊

Wow you are living both me and my brothers dream- he restores cars (mostly classic Holdens and mum and dads 1973 Statesman) and it's my dream to live on the beach some day again too!

Lucky you've had work to keep you going over the past couple of years too cause I know that so many places in Thailand and other parts of the world have suffered greatly due to the lack of tourism $$$$...

What a life and job to have right now!

Where do you sell the muscle cars to? Locally in Thailand or OS like Europe/USA???

That is a coincidence I have restored many Holden I own a couple myself back home stored away for that day to sell and already they have triple in price as your brother and yourself would know.

Work has worked out great the past couple of years for the reason the Thai rich people have not been traveling so they are spending there money on there hew toys so lots of restoration going on.

We sell our muscle cars to the Thai market surprisingly they love there muscle cars over here. This is one that I resorted Mach 1 Mustang 351 which is in my bosses show room now.

So am I to expect and 'Banging up in Bangkok' like the rest of the car resto shows??? lol...could be a combo of banged up abroad...🤣

I reckon that there'd be some serious 'adventure" happening in your work shop...after all, you're in Thailand...

Haha, actually I use to love them smash up derby's I when to a few of them myself but no they don't do that here in Thailand as far as I know I might have to introduce it to them it would be fun but they do that on the roads all day long with there skills of driving 🤣

Ha ha haaaa yes that's so true!

I always say of you can drive in Thailand with all the Thais and the tourists from everywhere else in the world then you can drive anything anywhere!

Which is what it is now like in Melbs. Freaking atrocious. Cars gone wild. Drivers gone mad..ESPECIALLY when it rains. It's like they've never ever seen it rain before and have no idea how to drive their cars....

Maybe I should record my driving commentary...I come from a 7 generation truckdriving family in the country, so I'm sure that you can imagine what shit comes out of my mouth when I have to watch the the circus around me...🤣🙄

It's all the vaccinated people they have lost it 🤣🤣

Unfortunately noooo, they were all driving like they were in a smash up derby well before that!

When I firrst moved here my cousin (a truckdriver who's been living here for quite a few decades now) told me to drive the car like I stole it- just like everyone else does.

It hasn't changed over here they still drive like their in a smash up derby or stole it 🤣

Oh wow you should have seen the chaos in Melbs yesterday. Big storm, Floods everywhere cars stuck everywhere and 2.5hrs instead of 25mins to get home from work- which we had to evacuate because if the worst flooding anyone has seen in the shop (always flood in there as it's a really OLD building and falling down everywhere...)

Check this out- at 1:13 you'll see the tram heading up Sydney Rd- a block away from where I work..

OMG the Australia weather has just changed so must it's very unpredictable now a days not like it use to be but Melbourne has always had the four seasons a day as far as I can remember 😆

Am lucky to have a job that involves lots of traveling and enjoying it so much see different provinces around the country. How are things over there in Vietnam have restrictions mostly been lifted are you allowed to fly around within your country.

Good for you :) I also traveled a lot with my former job, so I know how great it is
Since I have been fully vaccinated, I am able to travel now. The restriction has been lifted and life is back to normal. The rainy season, however, keeps me from traveling much now :)
