The Armed Forces Avenue Bridge
The civil works executed by engineers, urban planners and architects are destined to make symbiosis with the inhabitants of a city, that is to say, to be integrated in such a way that the structure, building or urbanism is part of where the framework of social relations prospers, diversifies and grows.
Based on the above premise, today I am going to talk about the elevated bridge located on Avenida Fuerzas Armadas, Caracas, Venezuela. My residence is located at the corner of Corazon de Jesus, just at the beginning - South side of the bridge and it extends for three blocks, that is, about 300 meters, ending at the corner of Socorro, on its North side.
The bridge, according to the website Fundación, Arquitectura y Ciudad, was completed in 1956. Remember that in the previous post Iglesia Corazón de Jesús, I mentioned that its façade had been demolished, as it was demolished precisely to make way for its construction.
Today this bridge allows to alleviate the vehicular traffic that produces so much chaos in the center of Caracas, joining the southern part of the city: El Cementerio, Av Victoria, Prados de María, etc., with its northern part: San Luis and Cotiza. Avoiding that the traffic invades Avenidas Universidad and Urdaneta Avenues, which are very chaotic. In this way it becomes an artery that facilitates those who must pass through the center, without entering it directly.
From my window I often see the chaos that breaks out when one of the avenues is blocked and the bridge and the streets become a hive of vehicles. Then the sound of the horns come into action and many times I wonder what the stressed drivers gain by honking so incessantly the horn of their vehicle, because there is no magic formula that instantly dissolves the swarm that from my window seems to me like a retinue of ants.
But now let's talk about the incredible life that takes place under the bridge. To make the most of the spaces, a series of kiokos were built under the bridge and set aside for the largest bookstore in the city. If you need a used book, new, old, stationery, etc., I'm sure you'll find it there. Needless to say, it is one of my favorite places to look for books at very good prices.
But that vibrant, bustling, diverse and even fun life doesn't end there. On its corners there are hairdressers, food vendors, flower sellers and even a small restaurant that sells food to the drivers of the various public transportation lines. Life is active in this place. There you can find everything and I am sure that walking in this place is not boring at all.
On its walls plastic artists have decided to make murals and graffiti. Trying to make it a more welcoming place for the passersby that every day we walk it, but many times these murals are lost among the sea of people and vehicles.
The roof or rather its floor, right on Urdaneta Avenue shows damages, part of its concrete has fallen, which is due to the times that vehicles dragging containers have tried to pass under the bridge and thus avoiding a longer route. What they do not know is that the container is higher than the maximum height of the bridge and they inevitably impact against its roof. When this happens the traffic is a real chaos, which can last for hours.
At the end of the night you could say that the activity ceases, but I'll tell you a secret, the roof of the kiosks selling books, become improvised shelters for the homeless, who from there, perhaps dream of a better tomorrow.
If you made it this far, thank you very much for reading me.

Thank you for your advice. I will take them into account.
I find the way they take advantage of the space under the bridge to be nice , you also say that some people spend the night there , I tell you that in some countries these people live under the bridge , as it sounds literal , the bad is that these places also become centers of vice and even here they distribute drugs, conclusion is greater sale but not of books
I perfectly understand your point. It is certainly a place that, depending on the time, is dangerous. for example after 7pm I don't walk in that area
