Well, there you have one chosen: this is the hybrid Oshkosh, with which they have signed a contract of $ 6.7 billion for the production of 17,000 vehicles.

But why so much display?

The huge upright Humvee, named for High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, has been the pack animal of the Army and Marine Corps, serving them well for 30 years. However, this "light tank" has reached the limit of possibilities many times during the wars in Afghanistan. That is why you need a bigger successor, and better one that protects its crew from mines.

At first glance, the Oshkosh L-ATV is practically a truck. It measures more than 6 meters long and easily two meters high and wide.

It still needs to fit into the holds of a C-130 transport and can be towed by helicopter.

Its design does not inspire confidence in those who make it since it is practically a tank.

The L-ATV is a military mobility solution and not an all-rounder. The vehicle is built on a heavy, central platform called 1080 Core Protection. This is not a high definition screen, it is a V-shaped screen designed to properly dissipate the explosive blast located under the car, allowing survival.

The shield is attached to this structure, which is located in hard-to-reach places, as well as windows, and is "removable" on the body, allowing it to be easily replaced or upgraded.

The Oshkosh L-ATV is designed to be impenetrable, but it is also a powerful arsenal.

Machine guns, grenade launchers, smoke bombs and medium caliber can be mounted at the rear, from where visibility is enviable. The heart of this 6,400kg beast is a General Motors turbodiesel engine. A less powerful version of the famous 6.6 V8 Duramax equips the Chevrolet Silverado Heavy-Duty. In its military configuration, it develops 300 hp and a torque of about 800 Nm.

This engine is associated with a gearbox manufactured by Allison, with a reducer to face the difficult ones. Power is transmitted to the ground via four-wheel, highly reinforced military truck tires. The TAK-4i independent suspension is electronically adjustable and can be raised with a simple button.

Its maximum speed is around 120 km / h and it is capable of carrying an additional 2,300 kg.

Although the government tender did not contemplate the hybrid, Oshkosh offers hybrid versions that can also generate power with a generator to even power a small hospital in the field. In addition, ambulance versions and anti-tank versions will be manufactured, with guided missiles to the technology. It's definitely an intimidating-looking machine, perhaps as intimidating as Russian military SUVs.

And now what are you going to do with all the Humvees? I suppose they will sell them or they will have to declare war on someone so that the government will give them money to pay them, which is what happened in the wars of Vitnan
