The Final Grades Are In - So Proud Of My Daughter!

The Final Grades.png

Well-deserved holiday

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the final week of my daughter's school in the first class. and she's happy to be free from learning a few months. Because of a little mistake in the system, her third-term grades were visible in the app a few days after her last day and we were so happy with what we saw there! She went beyond our expectations and we're so freaking proud of her! We can safely say that she is now enjoying a well-deserved holiday. We never expected the first year as a non-speaking Spanish girl to end with these grades. We were ok with her not doing so well the first year, or maybe two years.

The third-term grades

Her grades were based on the last exams as well as how the kids behaved and were paying attention in class. This is her list:

  • Spanish - 7
  • Maths - 9
  • English - 9
  • Physical education - 8
  • Arts - 8
  • Natural and social science - 7

What was especially good is that she went up from a 5 to a 7 for both Spanish and Natural/Social sciences on her second-term list. And although she started the first term of Maths with a 9 on her list, she went down to a 7 in the second term and now went back up to a 9 in the last round. For arts, she went from a 6 to a 7 to an 8, which is great!

Final report

The final report of the end scores would be available on Tuesday last week, so we had to wait a few more days for them to be released. She ended up having this end score:

  • Spanish - 7
  • Maths - 8
  • English - 9
  • Physical education - 8
  • Arts - 8
  • Natural and social science - 7

So the only change was the maths average, an 8 instead of a 9. We know she had a rough second-term understanding of what the teacher meant. Thankfully, with the help of her very patient tutor, she managed to get through that rough period and went back up again.

We were worried about the language

We both agreed we'd feel better if she'd repeat the first year to make sure the Spanish language isn't going to be an issue later in this second year to come. But seeing these grades, all my worries were over as I'm pretty sure even some Spanish kids have worse grades, while they didn't have her handicap with the language.

We will continue with the tutoring, maybe a few hours less a week to not overload her next year, but it depends on the needs. I think maybe in exam weeks we will up the hours and the regular weeks slow it down a bit.

Time for a reward!

As we are so proud, of course, we had to give her a reward for her efforts. We were in a store where they had plenty of toys so we told her if you want to have something here, and can pick anything, what would it be? She went straight to the dolls section and found a cool Mermaze
Mermaidz doll, there was also a car available that changed color in the cold water so we added that to the doll.

It looks pretty badass if you ask me, too bad that hair is a true nightmare:

IMG_20230701_142808.jpg

It's impossible to unwrap it to make a braid or tuck it together in a crunchy, I've been told to cut it shorter to remove the tangled part but I'm afraid to mess it up. There are two different types of hair so it seems and I wonder if I can manage to cut it properly. So far she has been using other Barbies in her fancy glitter car instead. I have to give it some thoughts first before I cut it shorter. Tips are welcome, lol.

The most important thing is she's very happy with the gifts and we are super proud parents. A year ago, we'd never expected her to make such big progress in the first year, especially not with a not-so-emphatic teacher who doesn't speak one-word English.

Very well done little lady! <3

Really....! Very well done, little lady.

I can imagine the woriies as a parent. A couple of years ago I was also passing through the similar kind of worries and anxieties. I was not expecting the good reults despite the efforts being put. Nevertheless, when the result of my son was announced, it was good. He kept on showing improvement in the successive exams.
It gives elation to see the progress.

About the hair of the doll, I would say let them be how they are. Let the little lady appreciate her doll as it is. Something new. Something different 😀

@thisismylife...

Hello, my friend! I was looking through all the (around 100) Discord Servers I am in and was reminded of your comment in the The PIMP District Discord Server:

"I never actually published in the community I think, just read that post of the creation above. A nice story of how this community came to life..🤗 you will see me pop up there soon, I love thoughtful posts"

Let me tell you... this would have made a wonderful Thoughtful Daily Post! School can be such a trying time... combined with everything the COVID changed... ZOOM classes, Homeschooling... as if going to school wasn't hard enough... right? But it sounds like your daughter really excelled in what she was doing; definitely a "Proud Parents" moment! I had to chuckle as I read this part:

"A year ago, we'd never expected her to make such big progress in the first year, especially not with a not-so-emphatic teacher who doesn't speak one-word English."

I was reminded of my High School History teacher... the classroom was at the very bottom of the school. I can remember quite well because there was always something wrong with the AC system. So it was hot... and dark... He had a low monotone voice... no change in his inflection. I actually passed his class (somehow) but to this day. Any time I think of a history lesson, I hear his slow... unchanging... droning... voice lol.

Anyway... Loved the doll choice! My granddaughter was crazy about those LOL dolls when she was younger. Being the Papa that I am, I went above and beyond... anytime she would talk about a new one she had seen...

I think this one was the "LOL Surprise! Doll Bling Series Glitter Ice Sk8er " but I don't really remember lol. I just know she loved it... I am sure she would have loved these Mermaze Mermaidz dolls. Please send my congratulations to your daughter!! I hope you are having a good start to your week!

Love and light!

Let me tell you... this would have made a wonderful Thoughtful Daily Post!

Oh damn, see I know I suck at finding the right communities for some content. I will add thoughtful daily post to my content planner so that I will see them and be reminded. Thank you for pointing it out!

School can be such a trying time... combined with everything the COVID changed... ZOOM classes, Homeschooling... as if going to school wasn't hard enough... right?

I have tons of respect for parents homeschooling, I tried, I really did but my daughter is one of a kind and I'm too impatient to teach her hard things. We can craft and do artsy stuff, some maths as well (because I'm good at it and she is too) but when I tried to go through some homeschooling stuff with her, I got so frustrated that I gave up. Sometimes two people just don't click in terms of how they need to teach/learn, thankfully, her tutor has nailed it with our daughter!

I admit that she has serious issues with some social skills which would have been taught at kindergarten if covid didn't hit the world and it saddens me every time I realize how much things considered normal behavior are so hard for her because she didn't have the social life another small child would have had at that age. But we can only cope with that part and hope it will pass but it seems regular learning material such as language and maths is easier to learn than social stuff :)

He had a low monotone voice... no change in his inflection. I actually passed his class (somehow) but to this day. Any time I think of a history lesson, I hear his slow... unchanging... droning... voice lol.

Haha, I can relate a bit, I had one of these as well, not for history though but another class that made me yawn as soon as I walked in. You probably know once you start yawning, a domino effect is set in place, lol.

Reading that part about the dolls makes me realize we should really get rid of some toys, there's simply no space left to store them.

I told her some people read it and said she did great. Thank you! As well for your thoughtful comment, I can see how it would have fit in your community perfectly!
Adding it in my planer as we speak, to be reminded and hopefully not forget.

Have an amazing week!

@thisismylife...

No worries!! Many think they must post "daily" for me to see the posts! That's NOT the case! As I mentioned (somewhere lol) I had the idea for this community, while posting with the #thoughtfulthursday TAG. I thought... "We can be thoughtful, every day!". Anyway... I sometimes miss posts, as I am doing all the curation "manually" lol. It's not easy... I read so many posts and think... "This just does not fit". Whether for lack of meeting the guidelines I have made, or just nothing to do with the energy I was trying to elevate. I want to support everyone! But I won't lower my standards, just to do so. However... this was wonderful! So... maybe I will see you around... yes?
