Relief & Gratitude - Our Private Health Insurance Is Live

Relief! Private Health Insurance Live.png

A few weeks ago, I wrote from a frustrated point of view

As the health insurance department that needed to send us a text to confirm a few exclusions which, apparently, was very difficult. I went back and forward with the insurance broker, who by the way was a champ in mediation and clearly not the cause of the issues. I'm very happy that I had her in between to have some serious ranting as she fully understood that this was beyond ridiculous. For a bit, I felt this was never going to be arranged before August the first when the insurance goes live. But here we are, a few days until August, and it's live since yesterday! Woohoo, a big victory for us because I admit that this was one of the biggest stress factors for me in the past weeks. Health insurance is something that worried me much more than the banking stuff, registration as self-employed and even registering at this address.

Relief!

The bigger the stress, the bigger the relief when something is actually all set and done. That's why I've been super relieved ever since they sent me that email yesterday stating that the insurance is live now. I had to agree on the terms and from there it was all smooth actually, for a moment I was afraid that this SMS they would send was going to fail as well, but clearly there's nothing wrong with this system, so I blame the incapable (mostly not reading notes) people from the risk department. But I will not have to deal with them again, so yay for me!

A curse that also turned out a blessing

Where the insurance was SO slow, halfway through the month I realized that I was not really keen on paying half of the month of July for this shitty service. I asked if it was possible to change this to a later date and the broker said it's possible to move it to August 1st. I already had the funds for the month of July in a separate vault for that purpose but now I figured their incompetence had just unlocked some extra budget for our so needed household stuff.

Paying another month insurance in Hungary

As long as we weren't unregistered in Budapest, which we weren't until last Friday, and we didn't end the public insurance there (I was waiting for this here to be all set), I decided to pay another month of that insurance which is only 20,75 euro at the time of this writing. Meaning that I unlocked myself 160 euros more or less from that vault to spend on our home. I made sure to pay both of our insurances there to avoid issues in case anything happens here, I mean, I'm pretty sure we get help from the European Health Insurance Card regardless, but I'm not keen on finding bills in the mail afterwards if they find out we didn't pay contribution that month. Twenty bucks each is not much anyway. So in a way, thank you Spanish private insurance! Thanks to you we bought a vacuum cleaner, a coffee machine and some other stuff we needed for the house. Great!

Now moving on to the next steps

Of course, this was not the end of our bureauCrazy adventure yet, as the bank account is a whole different story itself, I could probably already fill a few blogs with that issue, but I decided to give us a tiny break without too much stress and take it by the day. I hope by the end of this week, we have at least one more thing to wipe of the list. If you've never moved countries, you won't believe how many steps you have to take to get things sorted and the strange things you find along the way which is so unfamiliar to your home country, and the time they take to get the process sorted. I just have to remind myself again, we now live in Spain and if things won't get sorted today, they may be sorted "mañana" and if not, there are always the next "mañana's" after that.

It's a good reminder to sometimes slow down a bit, because if the government officials aren't stressing about it, why would I?

There will always be tomorrow!

Ahh the stressful insurance craziness.I really don't get all the red tape. You fill and sign a few forms and wallah your approved .It be so easy just to fax your records over to another country then go from there. This is just medical not life insurance .Neither my wife or I have life insurance just medical thru my wife's work since she works at the local hospital.I can only try to feel your pain since its so simple yet so complicated.I'm crossing my fingers and toes you get this resolved in timely manner.

It is indeed very simple, it had nothing to do with sending over files though. It was even less complicated, they excluded a few things, I had to read the doc about those exclusions and confirm I agree by filling in the code they sent by text. This sms never arrived. I told them 20x check the landcode as that's probably the issue.

I'm crossing my fingers and toes you get this resolved in timely manner.

Not sure what you mean with this as the insurance is live now... :)

Haha you got new household items, a blessing in disguise of a curse for sure 😅

if the government officials aren't stressing about it, why would I?

This cracked me up but that is just it, we can't stress ourselves on something not worth it according to the Government 😅

Yes if we had to pay this insurance for July, I would have waited with these purchases until the next month but now it's already here, so that's great! Actually more value for money too as they are useful while the insurance would have been unused lol.

The government officials here seem to have loads of time in every department you visit. It's amazing as I come from a place where things move fast, after 6 years, it's still hard to get rid of that inner feeling of getting things done quick. It's not a bad thing to want to get things done, but I should just realize that some things I can't rush due to others that have the powers. I should save myself some stress and remind myself more often :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Health insurance is a royal pain, regardless of which side of the service you are on. Whether it is a patient or provider, they do not make life easy.
Glad to hear you got this piece wrapped up.

So true! But at least we're a step further, I'm quite sure the public insurance (which is included for the social contribution of self employment, will be just as a pain to set up haha). At least this is "extra' and not such a worry if it doesn't go as fast as we hoped.

Your reasoning at the end has an overwhelming logic. Understanding things like this makes us stay focused and balanced in this kind of peculiar proceedings.⚖️
