Ordering online is not as easy as it seems

This has nothing to do with unfriendly websites or no products that can be ordered online, nope. It mainly has to do with the fact that our doorbell outside of the building, the one that can connect the delivery guy to our front door to actually deliver something is broken since we moved in. Our landlord has already been informed and he said he was going to call the people from the company that fixes these. Great, the next week, we still haven't heard about it but as we already have some other (really important) things that I needed to pressure him about correcting the mistakes in the rental agreement, I decided to let the less important things slide for a bit and realize this is Spain, and it will probably be done "manana", or otherwise the day after that or maybe even next week.

A non-Spanish phone number doesn't help

I know you can fill in the land code, but we also know that people don't register this when they look at a number while they are trying to deliver a package, they don't expect this to be anything other than the Spanish land code. Which I can understand. When we went to the supermarket downhill yesterday, it was time to test the waters and try their delivery service. I came prepared with a handwritten note with our address, and phone number (land code underlined) knowing that this would speed up the process when the language can be a tiny barrier. I understand a lot, but sometimes I can get lost in what they ask, lol.

No NIE number with us, oops!

I totally did not expect to need my NIE number for the delivery to the supermarket, and I did not have it with me either. Neither did I carry my passport or a copy of it somewhere. There we were with our full grocery cart filled with 4 big watermelons and other heavy items, almost being sent away as they could not add us to the system. Then I realized that earlier that day I had sent our passports to the health insurance company, and I could get them in the email and show my passport number. Problem solved!

The cashier was very patient

One of the great things I appreciate here in Spain is the friendly customer service and a sincere don't worry it's ok when things don't go according to plan. What a difference with the last years of customer service experiences. Some things made it complicated to fill in my customer profile. I totally understand that it's confusing for her.

Dutch passports, Hungarian phone number

Although underlined, my boyfriend had the idea that she probably filled in a Dutch land code as our passports are Dutch. I mean, how could she guess otherwise? Well, to be honest, if she paid attention to the underline, AND what I told her 3 times, but she didn't listen, she assumed that I said DUTCH and totally missed the Hungarian word here 3 times. When she gave me the receipt, I checked and indeed I saw the Dutch land code.

Broken doorbell and wrong telephone number

A recipe for disaster for the poor delivery guy! There was a note that the doorbell was broken, but when at 9.30 the doorbell of our apartment rang, we knew this guy had tried to call the wrong number. Although she made a handwritten note on the receipt, this was not something the delivery guy got to see when bringing our order. I totally expected the guy to be annoyed and pissed maybe, as that's something we experienced over and over again in the past years, but nothing of that was true!

I explained the mistake

And he was still friendly and smiling, it was truly not an issue, he understood and I knew I would have to let the store change it later when I was going there for groceries this week. "No pasa nada". This guy delivered all these items with a smile and was still friendly while I could have understood his annoyance (especially if he was trying to reach us for a long time, which I don't know), but yet he stayed friendly and professional. I really appreciate this and I'm grateful that I see more and more understanding people around us as well as people that greet you on the streets even if you don't know them.

Grateful for nice customer service

They say you don't know what you got 'till it's gone, but it also goes the other way around! In this case, you realize more than what you didn't have was a huge miss and contributing to the overall feeling of not feeling happy and at home. Good customer service should be normal, but we have experienced mostly the opposite during the last 5 years or so, to the point that it made us wonder if that even still existed.

Spain has already made me feel welcome and at home again since the day we arrived, and this was the same some years ago when we arrived here. I never felt unwelcome, while that was often the case in Hungary. Sad, but true.

Meanwhile, we managed to get Spanish sim cards yesterday so from now on this delivery issue will not happen again. But let's still hope the doorbell will be fixed soon anyway. But it will probably be "manana", lol.

And I thought wrong!!! About ordering online 😂 it isn't about the popular issues that comes with it... The broken door! I hope it gets fixed soon.

Welcoming cashiers are always what customers want 😊 and now I think I've found a cool thing about Spain 😁

Haha thanks.. Thankfully it's not the door broken but the doorbell, but it is a pain when that one doesn't work. Let's see with our incoming orders next week if all goes well too!

There are so much better things about Spain, but after some years of horrible customer service by default, this was a "normal" thing which made me feel thankful as to us, it was not normal to experience that anymore!

Well these days most costumer service I have experienced, is a chat online. I usually try to be very polite and friendly, even I dont know the person and dont see a face, I many times told them to check out LasseCash, as a friendly reminder..

Other then that I guess more old fashion things still have polite costumer service on the ground.

It's true ... People are very friendly here.
I quickly learned the thing with the phone number and NIE number. If you want I posted a topic on it. Good you have a spanish sim now. Some places refuse to accept a foreign number and then you're stuck.
I wrote down my address details and NIE number in a note on my cellphone. So I can always retrieve it 😏

Yeah huge difference with where we came from, with one exception of an online supermarket though, that reminds me, still need to write a review about them haha. Anyway, I also came prepared because I know at least then we won't have a language issue if I don't pronounce something correctly :D just show the phone or note.. but this time it was not helpful with the phone. Thankfully, from now on I can just share the Spanish one, I can also keep using the old one as I have DUO sim.

Same here, but my spanish sim is mostly in flightmode or off. There ware days that I received 9 calls from callcenters. I was getting tired of it, and now I only turn that one on when I expect a delivery where I had to give my Spanish number. It was driving me crazy 🤪 Okay, I don't need much to get in a crazy state of mind!

Haha, I can totally imagine that I'd do the same. I still have a balance on my Hungarian number as well as data. For now, I don't see a reason to switch to the Spanish one especially because I have a duo sim anyway, why bother? If they start annoying me with call center calls, I bet I will do the same and have more reason to keep my Hungarian one on the side lol

Lol it would have been so funny if you were there with all those groceries and everything needed to return just because you forgot that one important piece of paper😆 but happy for you guys you got your water melons. I still do the groceries once a week on a bike.

Oh man, it crossed my mind for a bit haha. Until I realized I shared that passport earlier, so that was my savior. I swore to take a pic of the NIE later that evening, which I still haven't done, have I learned nothing? :)

We are still in doubt if the bike will be the first purchase or if we just "walk" it out until we buy the car, on one hand, I say get that bike, on the other hand, where I will have to place it, is a hallway of people constantly passing it and I don't know if people here are those that will break something or you know flatten the tires.. On top of that, I'd have to carry it up the stairs, which also is not that convenient :)

So we thought maybe we look for an electric step, so it's not that shit uphill, wear a backpack, load it up and then place the thing under the bed or so, lol. I really would love to ride a bike again it will help me a lot as well, but the storage issue is a real issue, I have to check the street a bit better to see if there are more bikes (probably not) and if they are on the streets without being stolen.

Most people park it on their balcony over here, but you see very few in the street but I always drive it with a smile. I got a new one from my dad for my birthday 2 years ago a real oldskool dutch bike

What if you don't have a balcony :) lol
I think I will have to settle for a step for a bit or find a foldable bike but that would be a bit of a nightmare as well if I would have to carry the child seat with it. Nice bike! I can imagine you are happily riding it, I really miss that since we left Holland, I had such a great "mommy-bike" there it was so great. In Budapest that was not an option to have one where we lived. My plan was to buy one asap here, but I didn't anticipate to having no storage space for it. Oh well, we'll see!

Yeah storage space is a requirement indeed but I am sure you are creative enough to work something out. But no vouwfiets it´s horrible due to the small wheels and I don't think it will hold a child seat

Nah honestly, I rather wait until I can get my preferred bike instead of buying a thing that I don't really want. We have LOADS of storage space in this apartment, I think the most ever in any house, even if we had more bedrooms lol, but storing a bike is something different. We don't have a separate hallway either, you enter the space and on the left is the bathroom so I can't place a bike in the hallway either :)

Once I get to know the neighbors a bit I can maybe decide to buy one and place it outside, but for now, walking it is!

It's rare to get real customer service that doesn't belittle or try to make you feel guilty for even calling, as though the complaint is your fault.

It's also increasingly difficult to actually talk to a "live" after you've ventured through the service company's menu several times.

Oh yes, I agree with you on the live person instead of a tape. That reminds me of another one recently! It ended well though, but I was very frustrated not being able to speak to a person after 10 attempts walking through the menu.
