Friday Night - Tapa Night

Tapas in Almeria.png

Friday night

It was a boring Friday, not many things went according to plan and we were ready to get out of here. As it was a Friday night, I proposed we'd go for tapas. Although it's already much chillier in the evening than it was in October, I still enjoy going out some nights to have a tapa here and there, but it's definitely limited to max once a week while during the remaining seasons, we sometimes head out for food on a daily basis.

The great thing about living in Spain is that it doesn't have to be expensive. We have quite a few affordable tapa restaurants and breakfast is actually dirt cheap everywhere. It's the way of life that makes it so enjoyable and it doesn't really matter if it's a simple toast we eat or sit a few hours for a few tapas.

Seeking new restaurants

We know most places in our area, although some we still have to try. On a Friday night, I want to make sure I have something I really like eating and when I find a restaurant where they have grilled food, I have to check the pictures because we love that!

Usually the little one is quite picky and I also have to make sure they have some chicken strips or crunchy chicken something so that I know she will eat something. This time we got lucky because although there was no chicken strip or anything similar, there were chicken croquets and I managed to convince her to try it because she loves Dutch croquettes. Win, finally a new thing to add to her tapa wish list, lol.

The chicken croquets

Let's start with the only food the little one wanted to try (oof, difficult eater, yes!).

It had my approval in terms of crunchiness and the inside looked as I would expect it to be:

This was the face of my daughter after eating one:

Stamp of approval, check! I had one myself and it was delicious actually. I don't think I ate a chicken croquets in Holland, ever. So I don't have anything to compare it with but the normal ones with beef. This one was good!

Now our food

We went for something grilled for sure because that's what we came for!

The thing we ate twice was this amazing grilled Iberico I think it was, it was so tasteful (it usually is). There was another grill tapa which I didn't catch on camera for some reason but it was not that great either.

One tapa we'd normally not really pick for an evening dish but we did this time was this one:

A toast with avocado and smoked salmon. I tell you it was so good I wanted to order another one but I didn't because it was a bit too salty as well and I try to keep an eye on my salt intake since I have high blood pressure.

As you can see this was a taco, I don't remember the details but my boyfriend liked it. Usually these small tacos are a nice bite and it was well balanced.

Nice ambiance

The restaurant was open before the kitchen was. We arrived around 8 when the kitchen was just open and it was already full at the right side of the restaurant where they had high bar tables only. But people weren't just drinking there, no, everyone was eating, clearly this was a local hotspot!

There is no better bell clock than eating when you feel like it

I enjoyed these type of texts on the wall, I had fun trying to understand them without a translator (I had to get one a few times though). It made us practice Spanish a bit more lol.

Don't waste water, drink wine :-)

The restaurant's name I didn't remember but it was near a big shopping mall where I also took a few pictures later:

Conclusion

The bill was 40 euros I think and we did our best eating a lot of tapas, it was not expensive at all. It was a good ambiance and clearly a hit with the locals. I want to go back there in the future and try out a few other things on the menu as well.

I found this place by just browsing through all restaurants on google maps and look for interesting names, click on their menus and pictures. I don't have any recommendations so this is the way I usually look for hidden gems that we'd normally not drive by.

That's all for today, thanks for stopping by!
