❣️Hello friends of hive!❣️

This is my contribution to this gathering of talents, where our friend @angelica7 invites us to write on the topic “Autopilot.” Living on autopilot means that a large part of our daily actions and decisions are driven by mental and emotional patterns that we’ve repeated so many times they’re triggered unconsciously. We go through our routines mechanically, without truly being present in the “here and now.” These behaviors become so invisible that they’re now part of the fabric of our daily lives.

I’ve often had that strange feeling that time flew by, and sometimes, when the day ends, I feel like everything happened so quickly that I can barely remember exactly what I did over the last few hours. That’s why I’ve noticed that my routine every morning goes like this: when I wake up, the first thing I do—almost out of habit—is grab my phone from my bed to check social media and read my messages. Then I head to the shower, go to the kitchen to make coffee, get ready for work, and, on my way there, I’m already thinking about what I’m going to make for dinner when I get back. Every day I follow exactly the same pattern—a daily routine that my mind carries out without fail—and I realize this as I observe my days one by one.

I see that the problem with this “automatic mode” is that it disconnects us from our own experiences. We act mechanically, we stop enjoying life’s pleasures, we don’t truly listen to those around us, and the days start to feel so much alike that we come to see this as normal. I’m aware that, to make meaningful changes in my life, I have to change some habits because I realize that, to stop living on autopilot, the key is to start taking small steps little by little so I can be more present in my life.

I think that breaking this cycle requires a conscious effort to pause, breathe, and return to the present moment—even if only for a few minutes a day—to reconnect with myself, gain mental clarity, and find the focus needed to work toward my future goals. That’s why I’ve made it a point to try every day to breathe and pause to think about what I need to do, because I believe this will greatly improve my days and my future—by putting it into practice and concentrating on what I’m doing to change those repetitive behavior patterns.
