¡Hola a todos!

Bueno, es curioso, ¿no? Jean escribiendo acerca de una película luego de tanto tiempo... Y la verdad es que no sé de dónde salieron tantas ganas.

Desde hace unos cuantos días un amigo bastante cercano me comentó que podía prestarme su cuenta en un montón de aplicaciones para ver películas y series (Disney+, HBO, Netflix, etc) y a pesar de que utilizo muy poco estas aplicaciones porque invierto el 99% de mi tiempo jugando una que otra cosa, acepté su oferta porque no pierdo nada y también pensé que sería la oportunidad perfecta para retomar publicar acerca de películas y series de nuevo.

¿Qué mejor forma de volver haciendo una review de una película de Marvel? Como ya muchos sabrán, realmente me considero un fan del UCM y de cómo han estado construyendo un universo de superhéroes entretenido y con bastante seriedad al mismo tiempo.

Hablar de esta película me pone bastante nostálgico por la gran cantidad de tiempo que ha pasado desde que salió y la vi por primera vez. Thor: Ragnarok tiene TODO lo que puedes pedirle a una película de superhéroes, y creo que desde aquí Thor comenzó a ser un personaje mucho más relevante e interesante en todo el UCM.

Antes de comenzar a hablar de el por qué quiero recordarles que uno de los personajes menos llamativos en el UCM cuando Marvel apenas daba sus primeros pasos era Thor. Las primeras películas eran insípidas, muy aburridas o destinadas a un ambiente mucho más "serio", cosa que si bien es cierto que puede caer como anillo al dedo en algunas películas, personalmente yo no podría ver Thor: The Dark World sin aburrirme o perder interés al cabo de unos minutos.

Y esto no tiene nada de malo: Es así cómo Marvel comenzó a aprender de sus errores y poco a poco mejoró el nivel como para presentarnos esta película donde tenemos un desarrollo de personaje y con un humor bastante único que hasta ahora no existe en ninguna otra película de Marvel.

Desde el principio de la película podemos comenzar a notar este humor bastante característico y sutil, porque no son chistes a lo Adam Slander o cosas genéricas que pueden parecer graciosas. Son solo diálogos o situaciones que dan el ambiente perfecto para la risa sin quitarle mérito o seriedad a lo que está sucediendo en pantalla o al transcurso de la historia de la película: Lo que nos están diciendo desde el principio es que a pesar de que ocurrirá el Ragnarok (destrucción de Asgard), lo verás pasar de una forma jamás imaginada.

Y así fue.

Desde principio a fin vemos a un Thor bastante enérgico y enfrentándose a Surtur, un demonio de fuego enemigo de Asgard que se proclamó a sí mismo como el causante del Ragnarok.. y a Thor parece no importarle.

Al principio creí que este tipo de detalles en una historia siempre tenían que abordarse con mucha seriedad, porque de lo contrario parecía un chiste mal contado. Pero por algún motivo aquí se sintió bastante "normal" la actitud egocéntrica de nuestro querido protagonista y luego de ver esta película de nuevo noté que me gustó bastante.

Si eres un fan de Marvel muy probablemente habrás notado o escuchado muchas quejas referente al CGI que se ha estado utilizando en las últimas películas.

Antes de seguir tengo que dar mi opinión acerca de esto: Me parece absurdo cómo Marvel está permitiendo esto. Solo imaginen ser una empresa multimillonaria con la capacidad de cotizar a los mejores editores, guionistas, actores, etc, y entregar resultados pobres.. esto suena bastante decepcionante, y lo es. Marvel está siendo bastante ambicioso y hay un montón de proyectos anunciados, pero parece que esto deja de ser humanamente posible y no me imagino todo el trabajo que hay que hacer como editor para cumplir las expectativas de una película exitosa en taquilla y hacer lo mismo unas 2-3 veces al año.

Como ejemplo de esto tenemos a Thor: Love & Thunder. Por la mayoría es considerada una película que falló completamente en este aspecto.

No hay justificación alguna en cosas tan absurdas. Tal vez esa máscara ni siquiera está hecha por CGI, pero me da una muy mala espina porque he visto cómo debido a esta gran ambición algunas empresas simplemente dan resultados absurdos por la forma en la que son explotados los empleados.

Aunque probablemente no se relacione mucho debido a la diferencia de mercado, no hace mucho ocurrió el desastre con Nanatus no Taizai. Yo fui alguien que estaba bastante emocionado por la tercera temporada y debido a no hacer las cosas con el tiempo suficiente, obtuvimos una de las peores decepciones del anime y de cómo algo tan importante como la animación puede destruir completamente las expectativas a la hora de ver películas o series.

Espera.. ¿y por qué estoy hablando de animación?

Porque esto es algo que la película hizo perfecto también, de hecho, lo hizo incluso mucho mejor que películas actuales. Cuando hablamos de Thor: Ragnarok estamos hablando de una película que salió ANTES que películas como Infinity War y No Way Home, películas que le dieron a Marvel ganancias billonarias y en teoría lo hacen una compañía mucho más fuerte y sustentable.

Thor Ragnarok tuvo escenas hermosas que vinieron mucho antes que esas películas y esto también demuestra la involución que Marvel está teniendo con sus últimas películas. Incluso los pequeños detalles están bastante bien pulidos y esto es algo que noté viéndola actualmente.

Me pareció bastante curioso que en esta película hubieron 2 introducciones, pero creo que fue un momento perfecto para darnos uno de los soundtracks más memorables de las películas de Marvel:

Y no estoy exagerando, este soundtrack es inolvidable y es imposible no asociarlo con Thor Ragnarok cada vez que lo escuchas. El comienzo de esta película hace uso de esta canción y quedó PERFECTO. En este video pueden ver cómo la pelea del principio es realmente épica y con esta canción se ve igual de épica a pesar de ni siquiera tener los sonidos de los efectos de la película.

Es brutal el gran comienzo que le dieron a esta película y creo que fue perfecto para mantener el interés para el resto.

Y eso que aún no presentaron al verdadero antagonista..

Hela, el amor de mi vida.

Desde el primer momento la apariencia de Hela es indiscutiblemente increíble, considerando especialmente lo que representa. Ella es la diosa de la muerte, y la combinación de colores verde + negro la representa perfectamente (y así está representada la muerte en muchísimas mitologías).

Debo admitir que desde su primera aparición caí completamente enamorado de ella. Solo miren su cara de maldad, siento que sería la mujer perfecta para que me baje el cereal de la nevera ya que yo soy muy pequeño para alcanzarlo.

Dentro de la historia Hela aparece luego de que Odin muriera (por razones que ni siquiera entiendo a pesar de haber visto la película hace un par de horas) y está hecha para darle un desarrollo de personaje perfecto a Thor, aunque no tanto cómo lo hizo Thanos en Infinity War jeje.

Los ángulos de cámara en muchas escenas son perfectos y esto tampoco pienso discutirlo. Recuerdo haber visto esta escena en el trailer y daba escalofríos porque para ese momento coger el martillo de Thor era considerado un logro mítico, y solo miren como Hela lo coge y aparte lo destruye con solo una mano haha. Debo admitir que crearon un hype enorme desde el trailer y esto es algo admirable porque también cumplieron cada expectativa mostrada.

Y hablando de trailers: A veces es preocupante lo cuidadoso que es Marvel antes de sacar una película, ocultan o cambian detalles que pueden ser bastante útiles para el contexto de sus películas, solo miren esta diferencia:

En el trailer nos dieron una escena bastante similar pero en lo que parece ser una ciudad, algo completamente distinto al lugar donde raelmente ocurrieron los hechos importantes.

Y no solamente esto, más adelante en la película Thor pierde un ojo en una de las peleas contra Hela, pero en el trailer no es así. Mostraré diferencias:

No solamente tiene ambos ojos, sino que toda la iluminación y el escenario de fondo cambia completamente. Realmente me gusta que Marvel sea así de cuidadoso con los trailers porque se siente como si de verdad quieren preparar sorpresas, como en el caso de No Way Home. Desde siempre existieron rumores acerca de Andrew y Tobey apareciendo en la película, pero Marvel lo ocultó tanto que incluso modificaron el trailer de NWH y removieron a 2 Spiderman en lo que fue la batalla final.

Ojalá tuvieran esa misma constancia para mantener un CGI de calidad, lol.

Es increíble lo tanto que transmitió esta película y todo lo que pasó y aún así lograron mantenernos atentos a la pantalla más que nada por la comedia de la película. En esta película murió Odin, revivió Loki, tenemos a nuevos personajes, Thor perdió un ojo, tuvo un power-up bastante genial, destruyeron Asgard y tuvimos un Thor vs Hulk (que para ese momento eran los personajes más fuertes del UCM que nos habían mostrado y verlos pelear era el fan-service que todos queríamos), y aún así la película fue entretenida en muchísimos otros puntos.

Oh, también vimos a Doctor Strange en una película de Thor, cosa que empezaba a unir los puntos y los héroes que ya nos habían presentado en otras películas. Me sorprende la sutileza con la que empezaron a unificarlos a todos para Infinity War.

Esta película tuvo de todo, e irónicamente eso es lo que la hizo única.

Thor: Ragnarok fue un completo desvío de lo que venía siendo Thor como personaje a lo largo de sus 2 películas, pero este desvío fue una de las mejores decisiones que pudieron tomar para reformularlo y darle un toque único que le devolviera su relevancia en el UCM.

Este tipo de decisiones no siempre son buenas porque Marvel se ha equivocado con otros personajes, miren el caso de Hulk: Antes era la bestia más poderosa que pudo existir y desde Infinity War lo convirtieron en algo absurdo que está lejos de lo que los fans querían realmente.

Si no eres fan de Marvel, no te preocupes, puedes ver Thor: Ragnarok de principio a fin sin tener que ver ninguna otra película. De hecho, Thor hace un pequeño resumen de lo ocurrido al comienzo de la película, así que si tienes ganas de ver alguna película de superhéroes, Thor Ragnarok es una opción perfecta.

Hello everyone!

Well, it's funny, isn't it? Jean writing about a movie after such a long time? And the truth is that I don't know where all this desire came from.

Since a few days ago a pretty close friend told me that he could lend me his account on a bunch of apps to watch movies and series (Disney+, HBO, Netflix, etc) and even though I use these apps very little because I spend 99% of my time playing one thing or another, I accepted his offer because I don't lose anything and I also thought it would be the perfect opportunity to start posting about movies and series again.

What better way to come back by doing a review of a Marvel movie? As many of you may already know, I really consider myself a fan of the UCM and how they have been building a superhero universe that is entertaining and quite serious at the same time.

Talking about this movie makes me quite nostalgic because of how much time has passed since it came out and I first saw it. Thor: Ragnarok has EVERYTHING you can ask from a superhero movie, and I think from here Thor started to become a much more relevant and interesting character in the entire UCM.

Before I start talking about why I want to remind you that one of the least flashy characters in the UCM when Marvel was just hitting its stride was Thor. The early movies were bland, very boring or meant for a much more "serious" atmosphere, which while it may fall like a ring to some movies, I personally couldn't watch Thor: The Dark World without getting bored or losing interest after a few minutes.

And there's nothing wrong with that: that's how Marvel started to learn from its mistakes and little by little improved the level to present us with this movie where we have a character development and a quite unique humor that so far doesn't exist in any other Marvel movie.

From the beginning of the film we can begin to notice this quite characteristic and subtle humor, because they are not Adam Slander-like jokes or generic things that may seem funny. They are just dialogues or situations that give the perfect atmosphere for laughter without taking away merit or seriousness to what is happening on screen or to the course of the film's story: What they are telling us from the beginning is that even though Ragnarok (destruction of Asgard) will happen, you will see it happen in a way never imagined.

And it did.

From start to finish we see a pretty energetic Thor and facing off against Surtur, a fire demon enemy of Asgard who proclaimed himself to be the cause of Ragnarok... and Thor doesn't seem to care.

At first I thought this kind of detail in a story always had to be approached very seriously, otherwise it felt like a badly told joke. But for some reason here it felt quite "normal" the self-centered attitude of our beloved protagonist and after watching this movie again I noticed that I quite liked it.

If you are a Marvel fan you have probably noticed or heard a lot of complaints about the CGI that has been used in the last few movies.

Before I go any further I have to give my opinion about this: I find it absurd how Marvel is allowing this. Just imagine being a multi-billion dollar company with the ability to quote the best editors, screenwriters, actors, etc, and deliver poor results... this sounds pretty disappointing, and it is. Marvel is being quite ambitious and there are a lot of projects announced, but this seems to stop being humanly possible and I can't imagine all the work you have to do as a publisher to meet the expectations of a blockbuster movie and do the same thing about 2-3 times a year.

As an example of this we have Thor: Love & Thunder. By most it is considered a film that completely failed in this regard.

There is no justification whatsoever in such absurd things. Maybe that mask is not even made by CGI, but it gives me a very bad feeling because I have seen how due to this great ambition some companies simply give absurd results because of the way employees are exploited.

Although it probably doesn't relate much due to the market difference, not too long ago disaster struck with Nanatus no Taizai. I was someone who was quite excited for the third season and due to not doing things with enough time, we got one of the worst disappointments of anime and how something as important as animation can completely destroy expectations when watching movies or series.

Wait... and why am I talking about animation?

Because this is something the movie did perfect too, in fact, it did even much better than current movies. When we talk about Thor: Ragnarok we are talking about a movie that came out BEFORE movies like Infinity War and No Way Home, movies that made Marvel billions in profits and in theory make it a much stronger and sustainable company.

Thor Ragnarok had beautiful scenes that came long before those movies and this also shows the involution Marvel is having with their latest movies. Even the small details are pretty well polished and this is something I noticed watching it currently.

I found it rather curious that there were 2 introductions in this movie, but I think it was perfect timing to give us one of the most memorable soundtracks in Marvel movies:

And I'm not exaggerating, this soundtrack is unforgettable and it's impossible not to associate it with Thor Ragnarok every time you listen to it. The beginning of this movie makes use of this song and it was PERFECT. In this video you can see how the fight at the beginning is really epic and with this song it looks just as epic despite not even having the sounds of the movie effects.

It's brutal the great start they gave to this movie and I think it was perfect to keep the interest for the rest.

And that's even though they haven't introduced the real antagonist yet....

Hela, the love of my life.

From the very first moment, Hela's appearance is undeniably amazing, especially considering what she represents. She is the goddess of death, and the green + black color scheme represents her perfectly (and this is how death is represented in many, many mythologies).

I must admit that since her first appearance I fell completely in love with her. Just look at her evil face, I feel like she would be the perfect woman to take my cereal down from the fridge since I'm too small to reach it.

Within the story Hela appears after Odin died (for reasons I don't even understand despite having seen the movie a couple of hours ago) and is made to give a perfect character development to Thor, although not as much as Thanos did in Infinity War hehe.

The camera angles in many scenes are perfect and I won't argue with that either. I remember seeing this scene in the trailer and it gave chills because by that time picking up Thor's hammer was considered a mythical achievement, and just look how Hela picks it up and apart from that destroys it with just one hand haha. I must admit that they created a huge hype since the trailer and this is something admirable because they also fulfilled every expectation shown.

And talking about trailers: Sometimes it's worrying how careful Marvel is before releasing a movie, they hide or change details that can be quite useful for the context of their movies, just look at this difference:

In the trailer we were given a rather similar scene but in what appears to be a city, something completely different from the place where the important events raelmente occurred.

And not only this, later in the movie Thor loses an eye in one of the fights against Hela, but in the trailer this is not the case. I will show differences:

Not only does it have both eyes, but all the lighting and background scenery changes completely. I really like that Marvel is this careful with the trailers because it feels like they really want to set up surprises, like in the case of No Way Home. There were always rumors about Andrew and Tobey appearing in the movie, but Marvel hid it so much that they even modified the NWH trailer and removed 2 Spider-Man in what was the final battle.

I wish they had that same consistency to maintain quality CGI, lol.

It's amazing how much this movie conveyed and everything that happened and they still managed to keep us attentive to the screen mostly because of the comedy of the movie. In this movie Odin died, Loki was revived, we got new characters, Thor lost an eye, he had a pretty cool power-up, they destroyed Asgard and we had a Thor vs Hulk (which by that point were the strongest UCM characters we had been shown and seeing them fight was the fan-service we all wanted), and yet the movie was entertaining at so many other points.

Oh, we also saw Doctor Strange in a Thor movie, which started to connect the dots and the heroes we'd already been introduced to in other movies. I'm amazed at how subtly they started to unify them all for Infinity War.

This movie had everything, and ironically that's what made it unique.

Thor: Ragnarok was a complete deviation from what Thor had been as a character throughout his 2 movies, but this deviation was one of the best decisions they could have made to reformulate him and give him a unique touch that would give him back his relevance in the UCM.

This kind of decisions are not always good because Marvel has been wrong with other characters, look at the case of Hulk: He used to be the most powerful beast that could exist and since Infinity War they turned him into something absurd that is far from what the fans really wanted.

If you're not a Marvel fan, don't worry, you can watch Thor: Ragnarok from start to finish without having to watch any other movie. In fact, Thor does a little recap of what happened at the beginning of the movie, so if you're in the mood for any superhero movie, Thor Ragnarok is a perfect choice.
