Company-operated restaurants, in the context of Steak 'n Shake, refer to locations directly owned and managed by the parent company (Biglari Holdings via Steak 'n Shake Operations, Inc.), rather than those franchised to independent operators.

This means the Bitcoin bonuses apply only to employees at these corporate-owned sites, not franchise locations. As of 2018, about 66% of their 628 restaurants were company-operated.
