Osiris New Dawn: Captain's log 3 - Exploring further with the buggy
Zeta Mine goes deeper and so do the resources
It is a new day, day 5 on this adventure to survive and I grab the buggy after fueling it with some more Hydrogen, bringing it back to the camp and admiring the progress made so far.
Today and tomorrow are looking to be busy days where I need to take the buggy out for a spin to get extra Hydrogen spare, other resources I am yet to obtain and make another trip into the Zeta Mine but this time, delve deeper to explore further.
The first new resource collected is a few nodes of Molybdenum which is not something I am very familiar with.. only heard of it from some logs but no idea what it will be used for without looking into the research further.
Then I headed to the nearby Hydrogen geyser previously visited along with some Aluminum, this got me more of those essentials to be stockpiled before hitting up the Titanium for the tougher, studier construction and equipment.
Nothing like sleeping off a dangerous night, filled with lurking creatures, just to wake up to the beautiful sight of the planet or moon I will just call 1 for now until there is a proper name.
But I cannot just stop and watch right now as this new day needs another visit to the Zeta Mine so I can gather more items while delving deeper, hoping to find something even better!
So off I go and with haste, might I add..
As I got further down inside the mine I unlocked a door, leading to new resources. I managed to find Gold, Mercury and Silver.
I know I can use the gold on things like large solar panels or white gold which can be used for a fabricator, Mercury can be used in things like the Chemistry station but the silver is something I haven't worked out what it will be used for and I wasn't expecting to find any yet.
Either way they will all be collected to be brought back and stored or smelted into other bars, working towards necessary panels and parts for a proper base won't be possible without all this extra crap otherwise, so I must persevere and focus.
It took some time to get back out of the mine while preserving some of my oxygen in the hopes the portable bottles don't need to be used.. my oxygen was down to 30% before I reached camp to breath more in, store the new resources and head out in another direction.
This direction leads me to Hades Hive or so a log says, which is in the general direction of potentially another site or some structure.
I am met with two large crab monsters to defend against which I could drive off, yet I find myself claiming some nickel and they tend to move quite quickly and would be able to chase me. So killing was the best option and with a couple of hits on me before I disposed of both of them, I could rest and tend to my wounds.
The rest of the day saw me collecting some additional Lithium, plus some rocks to make extra wall parts for additional protection where I am. Night time saw some reading into some of the logs I have found during my adventures so far, with one mentioning this as a moon called Proteus and being one of a few moons orbiting a planet called Theseus Prime, so at least I have more context from the previous team that we lost contact with. I better get a nice sleep then ready for tomorrow.
Day 6 has arrived, I feel confident in a drive to find the Phoenix Base a fair distance drive from me, but I must find out what happened and use it as a base of operations. With the buggy stocked up with Hydrogen fuel, food and water, Oxygen tanks and my inflatable dome kit, I make the drive happen.
Roughly 35 minutes later and I reach the base which is covered with dirt and seeming to not have any form of life.
It was going to be a timely but worthwhile effort to get this base repaired and into a place I can move to, but there is a lot here already to drastically cut down the time required to be operational. So I waste no time in starting on the airlock repairs as the first step with the next being the dome habitat.
Additional resources were needed as expected and before heading back to camp to collect what is stored, I head into the nearby valley which is full of a variety of resource nodes.. but after a short while there was a mighty rumbling in the ground, I had no idea what was happening but then I saw it.
A giant worm creature lives in this section and was heading right for me, I had to move quickly to get out of the way. I barely managed to avoid it but it seemed to back off after that scare, allowing the resource collecting to continue.
It was starting to get dark now and it was time to settle in, the inflatable dome was setup and a forge and workbench have been built. Tomorrow will be a trip back to the camp to gather a chunk of what is stored, to bring back and continue repairs so I can get closer to having an operational base where I can easily setup the new equipment I need to make.
This was Captain's log 3 - Exploring further with the buggy where Captain T (Thaddeus) Goliath explored deeper into the mine and taking the buggy to find and start repairs on the Phoenix Base site.
