Vacation at Home | Birthday Party

What's up, Hivers!

Ate Bing's mother and nieces came to see me the day I arrived to take the souvenirs she had given me. We had our dinner outside and decided to drop by our municipal plaza. The next day, early in the morning, we go to the beach to have coffee with one of our closest family friends. We just rode a motor, and it’s really cold, especially since I’m one of the drivers.

A few days passed. It's already Sunday, so we go to church for mass. On our way home, we agreed to have our lunch at the river. When we return, our neighbor is already preparing for their son's birthday party for dinner. I change my clothes and gather some shredded young coconut to bring for the lunch outing. I collected it with Auntie Maricel; she is our nanny, and she’s going with her children.

After we gathered enough of the fruit and while waiting to go, we helped our neighbor wrap the lumpia. We ate some pig's intestine before we went, and when we came back, the lechon was almost cooked.

Four days before my sister's birthday, she had an appointment at her dentist, and since it would be a three-hour drive to the city, we decided to have a one-night staycation. I also invited one of my close cousins, and I was surprised that her mother said yes immediately without any questions when I asked permission on his behalf because Tita was so strict with him since he is an only child.

We set off by 7 am, and when we arrived, we went to the nearby shopping mall while waiting for my sister to finish her errands. We still have over an hour to travel to the farm resort where we will stay. We stop for lunch at a Muslim restaurant. When we arrive at the resort, we simply rest for about an hour before taking a tour of the farm and visiting some of the tourist attractions in the area. At night we enjoyed our night swimming, and the next day we also went swimming after breakfast.

We stop by a supermarket before heading home to get supplies for my sister's birthday, and of course, alcohol will not be forgotten. I was so excited because my friends were also coming. It was almost dark, and the rain began to fall as soon as we arrived home. I still need to drive my cousin back to their home, and I also want to take a bath in the rain, so even when it’s raining, I take the motor from the garage and drive him home; it is just a little less than a 10-minute ride. When I got back, I was shivering from the cold.

The night of my sister's birthday, there were only a few visitors left, and her friends and classmates were already outside when my friends arrived. I was busy entertaining my cousins and the girls when I got confused when I heard some motors arrive. Then my brother called me outside the door and said that my classmates had arrived. When I went outside, I was surprised to see 10 men standing in the parking space and they bought me a welcome home cake. I only spoke with one person from their group; I just told him he should take care of explaining the plan to the guys, but I was just expecting 3-5 from them. Then I realized I had a friend myself who would not say no to free drinks and food. After they eat, we drink until dawn. They take a nap at our nipa hut and go home at sunrise.

I was always one of the boys since almost all of my same-age cousins and playmates are male. Even though I received negative comments as a result, I didn't mind; it wasn't even a big deal for my parents. What's important is that I’m comfortable with them.
