The little old lady with the sunken eyes

In the year 1972, we lived in Táriba, we were 12 people, my parents and 10 children, half children, half teenagers. My older brother Jorge was 18 years old at the time and was studying at the university.

He was an outstanding student, he loved to study with soft music in the background and at night when the house was quiet, so he waited for all the family members to retire to their rooms to sleep.

But, exam season came and since he had to get up early to take the tests, he couldn't wait for the family to go to sleep, so it was impossible for him to concentrate, so he made a habit of taking a chair, his notebooks and books to the corner of the street where we lived and sat under the lamp post.

My mother always told him that he had a very strange way of studying.

After midnight, he would pack up his things and go home to sleep.
One night, it was about twelve o'clock, when some boys from the block arrived. They were all friends, they sat down to talk, and since it was Saturday she didn't mind the hour. Time flew by with jokes, stories, anecdotes and laughter, they all started to leave until only my brother and Albino, my sister's boyfriend, were left.

They were talking, when suddenly, Albino saw a person at the other end of the street. Surprised, he said:
-Jorge, is that a person over there?

Jorge turned around and indeed, he saw the figure slowly approaching. To the surprise of both of them, it began to grow in an enormous way and then it began to shrink until it reached a real size.

It was a very old woman, very wrinkled and the darkest thing was her eyes, she had them sunk in such dark sockets, that she seemed to have no eyes. When she finally spoke she said

-Boys, go to sleep, this is no time to be in the street, she threw a coin at them and walked off the way she came. He did not reach the corner and halfway down the block he disappeared.

Jorge and Albino were paralyzed, they did not know how long they lasted like that, and when they reacted they started to run to their respective houses.

Jorge got into bed, covered himself with the blanket up to his head and shivered and fell asleep.

The next day, Albino arrived very early at our house and told Jorge that he was up and about.
Jorge that he was already up and had told my mother everything, that he had not been able to sleep at all and that when it started to get light he went running to the corner to look for the coin and found nothing.

My mother, very upset, told them:

-I hope this will serve as a lesson to you and that you will not do it again-.

So they did for a while, but when the scare wore off, they went back to their wanderings.

I, for one, was traumatized for a long time and I have never been able to forget the story of the little old lady with the sunken eyes.

This story is a contribution to the project of collection of paranormal stories, Crónicas del Táchira Ultratumba of my friend @ismaelgranados.

Well friends this is all for now, until next time.
