Here we are with the WE93 prompts by @galenkp in which I fell for the fourth topic which had been a pressing issue in my mind for a while. You can get involved here.

Four: I want to change society...
If you could change one thing about society, other than politically, what would you change and why? What would that change mean to you or others now and in the future, how would it impact life, and do you feel it would be a lasting change?

Relative to that society, I would be using my local area as a case study. My area is more or less a town consisting of new sites of housing. We relocated here in 2016, I remember I was in my finals in high school. And as you may have known, maybe, from my previous posts, I am someone who listens and observes a lot. So far, I have seen that those in my area, especially the youths, are bewildered by what I'd call lack of exposure - the belief that life ends in the locality.

Now back to the topic, what I will want to change here is that life in these locals is just an iota of what the world holds and entails. You may ask whether I am any different? Actually, I grew up in an ideal city - I'd say it is an already developed area, relative to where I live now. There, literates littered everywhere, so this naturally opened my eye, and then when I left for the tertiary institution I am in now, I learned and unlearned many things more. So, I guess, when we came to this new area, the way of life was just different from what I had known and still is. That is why I have just a few friends and not really close ones among them.

The way of life here has really eaten deep into them such that almost everyone exists exactly in the same circle of life. Even some that had better understanding tend to be engulfed in the norm when they settle here. One of the issues is that the youths/teenagers once they reach senior high/secondary school, it can be predicted correctly that the female(s) would soon be a victim of teenage pregnancy. And the male counterpart would begin to indulge in vices like smoking, theft, etc. I have seen this in "more than I can count" people. And if these problems persist, I fear that we are heading for a dysfunctional (local) society.

Even on a lesser note, just from school, their parents make or, perhaps forces, the children who are supposed to just do one thing at a time for the moment to learn some kind of vocation. But the parents can not all be blamed because most of them are either totally illiterate or semi-illiterate. However, I am not against learning that but why can't they wait till, maybe, finish high school at least. I believe that it is at these vocational centers that these kids see and mix with wolves in sheep clothes thereby inculcating bad vices in them.

Many a time, when I am alone, I do think that if I have the opportunity to just set up a huge campaign or sensitization program precisely for just this locality I live in and for youths and teenagers in order to just re-educate and change their mentality towards life - that life does not end just where we all live now, that anybody can break the (bad) norm. Although, any time I have the privilege to counsel some guys, I do just that which I have been longing to do on a wide scale. I hope, and seriously, hope to do more!
