Mr. Wrong Number

Two wrongs don't make a right, but replying a wrong number definitely makes Olivia meet her Mr. Right. What happens when replying a smut text from a wrong number leads to the most passionate albeit anonymous relationship of her life?

My first thought when I saw the cover of this book was that it was certainly going to put me in a better mood. The talented Lynn Painter once again regales us with a flawed yet entertaining romance novel.

Olivia Marshall is introduced as a character with a huge deal of bad luck following her. First she loses her job, then she gets dumped by her boyfriend, Eli who cheats on her with the coworker she introduced him to. Let's not even talk about the fact that she burns down her apartment when attempting to get rid of Eli's old love letters. For someone who has been considered a misfit by her family, all of this seem like a really huge disaster for Olivia Marshall.

Now jobless, homeless and heartbroken, Olivia has no other option than to share an apartment with her brother and his roommate who is also his best friend, Colin, who annoys the shit out of her. When Colin's character was introduced into the novel, it was easy to know how the storyline was going to pan out. What I did not prepare for was the hilarious twist in the plot.

There was really no atom of suspense in the novel for me, but the author did a great job at keeping her readers interested and turning the pages for more.

Right from when they were kids, Colin has treated Olivia like a total screw-up, one of those girls he would never take seriously, not only because he finds her annoying, but because she is his best friend's little sister, which is totally normal because if you are a romance novel freak, it is not surprising that Colin would see Olivia that way. It might be a little forbidden in the romance world to fall in love with your best friend’s sister.

Olivia on the other hand, might have had a little crush on Colin when they were younger. A crush that died as soon as she heard him call her a 'weirdo'. So, nothing prepares the both of them for their growing attraction to each other. While Colin believes Olivia is no longer the annoying little girl he knew, and begins to see a love interest in her, Olivia sees Colin as a handsome well-built man with fine 'hands' and 'ass', and she would be lying if she said he didn't pique her interest.

But then there's also Mr. Wrong Number, whose relationship with Olivia has grown from light hearted banter towards each other, to what they might both consider a genuine connection capable of developing into a long lasting relationship.

Olivia has to struggle with the hot mess she thinks her life is, her attraction to an anonymous wrong number who has managed to sustain her interest with witty remarks, and Colin who she has begun to grow interested in sexually.

It doesn't help that Colin feels the same way. It isn't long before the readers figure out that Colin is in fact Mr. Wrong number, and while Olivia is completely oblivious to this, and looking for a way to come to terms that she is attracted to two people, Colin struggles with breaking off as Mr. Wrong Number and focusing on a real life relationship with her.

What I loved about Olivia as a character, was that she was humorous and would also find a light at the end of every dark tunnel life showed her. You'll just have to admire her character, while others would have sunk into depression, she picked up the pieces of her life and tried to fix them together.

Olivia continues to encounter mini disasters here and there, from jamming the printer, to spilling Colin's expensive hair product, you'll just have to admit that Lynn made her character the most clumsy yet hilarious. All of her little mishaps had me laughing out really loud. This is one of those novels, where you cannot help but drop a little spoiler here and there because you definitely would love other people to feel the same level of excitement you felt while reading it.

Even though the author doesn't make Colin a funny character, he is quite interesting. Considered the black sheep of the family, for majoring in finance instead of following his father's footstep by studying law, you'll just have to admit that his character clashing with Olivia's character in a love affair definitely gives the thrill. I mean you don't exactly see a novel where the black sheep of a family falls in love with a lady who is super klutz with the tendency to make hilarious bad choices every day.

I thoroughly enjoyed the back and forth between these two. Some of their conversations provoked a laugh-out-loud funny reaction while other parts of their conversation was just beautifully sinful.

Lynn Painter really gave me a story I truly found enjoyable with characters that were fun to read.
I consider this book a little flawed, because I felt the author would have introduced a little bit of mystery and suspense but for a romance novel that aimed at making readers laugh, the author did a good job.

Another thing I loved about this novel was that their love story was situated in Omaha, not the regular spot like Los Angeles or Paris you'll think of a hot romance, but it made the novel relatable in some way. It's one way of telling the readers that they can find and create their own unique love experience anywhere, and that finding love isn't just restricted to the big magical cities.

I recommend Lynn Painter's "Mr. Wrong Number" if you want to read romance with an extremely hilarious plot.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and you would too.

...Colin is in fact Mr. Wrong number

I knew it! Or I suspected as much. The plot of this novel is interesting and feels like one of those book that can be adapted into a romcom because of the hilarious scenes. A fine review. Well done!
