The Quick Build Over! (CVT's Ain't No Fun!)

IMG-20220820-WA0073.jpg

Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers!

Easiest Job Of My Life!

Quite literally!

That in a CVT transmission aswell! For some weird reason I have no liking for these types of transmissions but I have to say that this is quite an easy one!

All we have to do here is swap internals out into the old casings, the client brought his own transmission and wants us to make one of the two!

Easy peazy!

The Mains Of The Swap!

There are two critical parts that we have to swap out otherwise we ain't going to get very far with this one at all!

The first is the CVT cones themselves, which was the main cause of failure on the old transmission, the chain that drives on the CVT's broke!

The other part being the valve body, we don't want to re-use the old one unless absolutely necessary, because of the chain that broke into a thousands pieces! If all else fails we can see what we can do with the valvebody then!

Never Hesitate!

Since this was a scrapyard box I do have the liking of tearing open the pumps! The reason for that is because they are exposed and therefor can get a whole lot of sand and dirt inside it!

You don't want that pumping through your entire transmission right!

The gear running surface is in a very good condition!!

At-least we have that!

There is some of that bad dirt I was speaking off! A lot less than usual but the fact stands!

This entire assembly also needs a thorough cleaning from that blacks mucky oils!

20260209_090927.jpg

YES!

Now that is a sight I love to see!

Everything clean and shining almost like it is brand spanking new!
Some good feels!

Now let's put it back together like it came out of the factory!

I did however swap out the front cover of the pump for the old one we have!

The scrapyard seal does not look like something I ever want to re-use!

The Assembly!

Now this is where the real fun starts!

Assembling it all and seeing how everything is working out just fine!
Trust me this isn't just drop in and go it's a hard puzzle sometimes!

The first to go in would be the clutches! In my life I would never have thought that a clutch could ever be this small!

Clutch stack fitted and made into a clearance spec of 0.9mm - 1.2mm

Yes a very small clearance indeed! Don't slip up there or your clutches will surely slip!

Trust me this wasn't as easy as I made it look in the photos! I did however skip a few steps so what you see here, well inbetween that is a Hive post on its own!

A few clutch stacks build and fitted! Which is mainly the bulk of the build!

I also swapped out some oil rings on the pump set up! Didn't like the look of the white ones so I gave some better black seals!

Almost Done!

No jokes! It looks like a lot is still missing right?

Well the next few steps are literally just drop it in!
In some sort of way!

20260209_110746.jpg

Just like that!

I added the differential gears and well most of the build is done for... on the one side of the story at-least!

I can now fit the front casing (Bell-housing) and then turn the box around.

Still Some Addings!

Whelp, I finished up on the front and now I have two major things left to fit.

The valve body and the CVT drums, but before we fit the valve body here let's do those pesky CVT drums!

I added the bellhousing to make sure nothing falls out of place and distorts me!

The Easy To Forgets!

Trust me you can forget these in a heartbeat and that would have you running in a thousands circles! Not something you would want!

That would cost a transmission removal for sure, oh and some major damage!

20260209_113223.jpg

Some more seals you'd rather not forget!

20260209_113322.jpg

Well I can't exactly show you how to fit these since I do need both hands to do this, sorry for that but you must take good care entering the CVT drums as they have seals that you do not want to damage at all!

Take it easy!

20260209_114331.jpg

Lastly the valve body!

Which has more bolts to bolt it down than the rest of the transmission all together! Insane right!

This is also another take it easy part!
