Taking It Easy After The Physical and Endurance TestπŸŒ„ Raleigh Falls 🚀 D-3 & 4

(Edited)

It may have seemed like the adventure was over after the hike on the Voltz mountain - which was obviously the highlight of the trip - day three and four were still left.

Like the title suggested we took it easy on day three and took our time waking up and getting ready for the next endeavor, which was going to the Moeder (Manari) vallen (in English: Mother falls) and the Anjumarafalls. Going to both falls we needed to step into those canoes again for a few minutes. Because it wasn't going to be such a strenuous trip, the guide and organizer were flexible and left the choice to us, so we voted and those who wanted to stay on the island also had the option to.

Because it was my first trip to Raleigh falls, I chose to participate with everything. Firstly we went to the Moeder falls, which was going to be a hike of 30 - 40 minutes to one hour from the boat to the falls, dependent on the full tour guide experience. The full experience was the guide explaining all those different (medicinal) plants and animals living in the region. As the day day before was already a long day, we asked to only guide us to the destination so that we had enough time left to enjoy the other falls.

At Moeder falls.

The hike to the Moeder falls wasn't as strenuous, as we partly went through a field and though there were times we also had to climb it was doable. When we reached our destination, we were welcomed by a lot of rocks and cooling rapids. Some of us even cooled down in the water, but the majority stuck to taking pictures and enjoying the view. We didn't stay long, because we wanted more time at the next stop. I didn't mention it before, but we came across the Anjumarafalls the day before - it was en route the Voltz mountain - and cooled off in it after the long and intense hike.

We stepped in the canoe again, crossed the river and set foot on the same shore as the day before. The Anjumarafalls are approximately 50 meters away from the boat and is around 2 meters high. I can't stress enough how much of a torture it was during the hike the day before: hearing the falls in the distance and walking and walking and not reaching it yet. When we finally reached it, it was like the icing on the cake, cooling off and soothing our sore muscles in the relaxing water.

Anjumarafalls

But like I said earlier, it was going to be different this time and we were there just to relax and enjoy the Anjumarafalls for a longer period. I looked around and saw one of my friends on top of the rocks and shouted asking him how he got there. He gave me instructions and it was a bit scary, because I was climbing it on my own and was afraid of losing the way. When I finally reached the top I was again greeted by smaller rapids, than the one downstairs. These were between dense forest and not so exposed to the sun, which made it cooler and there was more for us to enjoy.

After an hour or so, we left and went back to the shore and waited for the boat to bring us back to our main staying area. We ate, rested a bit and spend the evening in the rapids of Fungu island itself. We were almost going to spend the night on the rocks, but because we were going to have to travel back home for half a day we opted to sleep in our lodge. The next morning we packed and left the island at around half past eight.

Waiting for the boat to get us back to the island.

As "luck' would have it we stepped in the canoe with a faulty engine again, which sputtered and stopped a few times. It wasn't as scary as the first day though, because it was a sunny day. After the boat ride, we stepped in our busses and when we reached civilization one of our friends was offered to steer the wheel. His face glowed like a little kid, because he didn't expect it. We knew he had experience driving a bus, so we cheered him on and stood up for him when the other passengers were doubtful.

At last, we reached home safely and my parents knew we were going to be hungry - they experienced this trip years before - so they send us some food and snacks. Would definitely recommend this adventure.

That's it for day 3 and 4. Chasse into the backstage! πŸ’ƒ

Tour guide: "So do you guys want to learn about the medicinal plants and animals of this sacred region of your homeland?"

You guys: " We already have our weed and know what animals look like, to the falls please. Vamos!".

LOL I like how you break down the adventure into bite sized pieces, I need to learn to do that.

Hahaha, so yeah when some stories are way too long I tend to lose focus and I didn't want to do that with this, because everyday of that trip there was something happening and sometimes even more than one thing. Some I can't even write about πŸ˜‚ or maybe but then without "evidence" hahaha

Funny about that weed πŸ˜‚. So.... maybe if I'll ever go back I'll take my time and ask the guide for those lessons. Though every region has specific flora and fauna, I was also thinking that some of those medicinal plants could be all over Suriname and I've already "learned" about those plants already from other trips. Although, I don't remember much πŸ™ˆ. Oh well, you'll only remember it if you live in the region and are dependent upon them or if you're often dealing with those.
