So I think they burnt it to prepare and make the waters a bt more habitable for the fish and other aquatic animals? What is your take?

Not sure if it's the same in this case, but I was thought in school that the natives used to burn parts of the woods down to prepare the grounds for planting crops.

I was thinking the same but the only crops that could grow by a swamp is rice and they have their rice standards in terms of layout basically set here.
