My Journey: From A Shy Girl To a Confident Woman
Who would have thought that someday, this little introverted girl who never dreamed of being a teacher would become the one she never expected to be?

Hi! I am Charlyn Palma Larosa, 32 years old, and I am now living in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, Philippines, where the center of the sugar cane industry is located. I am now married to a kind and considerate husband who has been with me for a long time. We don’t have kids yet, and we are praying that, in the right season, the Lord will give us one. Right now, we are just enjoying the time when we can freely go anywhere we want without worrying about any child or family expenses yet.

Teaching is not really my first choice. Just like other kids out there, I also dreamed of becoming someone big, like becoming an architect, an animator, or a scientist. Since my shyness hinders me from fully expressing myself, I usually just hide in the last row of our class and stay quiet all day. I realized that this attitude of mine wouldn’t help me reach my full potential in the future. In 2011, I took up my Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education at the University of Negros Occidental- Recoletos. Honestly, my family decided to have me take this course since we are a family of teachers. Despite being hesitant at first, I gradually accepted the challenge and tried my best to enter into a new metamorphosis.

I slowly realized that teaching is not really a bad idea; instead, it has allowed me to inspire and mold the new generation’s perspectives through sharing some of my golden realizations in life.
College days were some of the best days of my life because I met beautiful souls who encouraged me to keep going and to become joyful despite all the odds. I was able to express myself and enjoy the freedom of being true to what I truly believe and follow.
After the rigorous and challenging years of my college life, I was able to harvest the fruits of my labor and became a Cum Laude (the first-ever excellence award that was bestowed on my family through me, since we never had an academic awardee in our family lineage before). It was a privilege to bring honor to them for the first time. This is because of the people who supported me throughout my journey. I wouldn’t have made it without them.

And now, I have been a public school teacher for nine years. The first few years of my teaching career weren’t that easy because I was still catching up with the new environment.

I have met new people along the way who empowered me to become a better person in the field. The path was very steep at first, and I struggled to keep my composure as an introverted teacher. In the long run, I was able to embrace the profession and have loved the community where compassion and kindness fostered.

I developed a sense of authenticity and realized that my voice mattered in the lives of my students. I was able to become their beacon of light.

Right now, I want to expand my sphere of influence and develop connection with people across the world. That’s why, I become a private ESL teacher. Despite being an introvert, I wouldn’t have thought that I will be able to conquer my fears and reach my potential.

I am onboarded by @antonette and @chinito who have encouraged me to fully express my thought freely in this community. Since I really want to develop my writing skills and meet new people here, I fully am excited to learn from her guidance. I understand that posting using AI is strictly prohibited and therefore I will fully abide on it. I also learned the importance of quality engagement in this community and I am truly thrilled to meet new people who have the same interest as me.
Thus, I can attest that this post and my future posts will originally come from my inner thoughts and feelings. However, the images I used here came from my personal picture photos but were improved using Canva. Therefore, as I become part of this community, I am full of hope that I will be able to share my personal experiences and connect with my fellow Hivers. I am thrilled to get to know more of you.

I’ve been to your place before, and it’s such a beautiful place. I remember seeing the wide sugarcane fields while traveling through the area, with rows of tall green sugarcane leaves stretching as far as the eye could see. It felt so peaceful and beautiful.

Wow. Are you also in Negros po? I'm excited to share my experiences with you all. Thank you for your warm welcome.
Cebu and Leyte
I went to Cebu last 2025. One of the most memorable place for me is the ocean park and sirao garden. Had a very amazing experience there.
Cebu has many beautiful tourist spots.
I totally agree. Di ko pa natry magtravel sa Leyte. I also want to check for tourist sites in that area.

Wow, another teacher in the house! Invasion na this, char! Welcome to Hive, Chally! You know what? I can relate to you. Teaching wasn't my target profession. I mean, I took up BS Education, but it was not my choice. It was my parents' choice. 🤣 I really wanted to become a policewoman or journalist. Since they saw me as a good daughter, I followed what they wanted me to become. Yun nga lang, I just practiced my profession in a private school for four years. Eventually, I resigned because I wasn't happy talaga. I left the province and faced the challenging life in Manila. With full determination, I was able to enter into the corporate world. My job really paid my bills, responsibilities, and sometimes luho, which my previous job didn't let me experience. When I left teaching, everyone there from my clan said SAYANG ANG TALENT. What am I supposed to do if I'm not happy at all? I felt it wasn't my calling. What matters is I tried kahit labag sa kalooban ko. Hahaha! At least naman ngayon, nag-oonline tutoring ako pag bet ko minsan. Nyahahaha! Anyways, going back, just continue teaching because you're happy with it. That's still the noblest profession. 😇
That's nice. At least you have pursued something that will make you happy po. I chose this career since it brings stability. However, I also want to broaden my horizon, that's why I chose to follow the path of ESL. I am not one of the company teachers, I am private tutoring. Hawak ko yung time ko and I can set my own rate too so medyo less stress siya. So every day, I am doing two jobs. Teaching is very fulfilling.
Welcome po sa Hive madam 😊
Hello po. Thank po. Parang madedevelop ulit ang writing skills natin dito hehe
