WOW!!

There is actually a day specified 'clean out your refrigerator day'. There is a back story to this day & you can read about it here.

For this post I'm sharing my clean out your refrigerator experience. It's long overdue but I don't remember ever cleaning out my whole refrigerator all in one day. In anticipation of this post I actually started my adventure about a week ago. As I usually clean out my fridge as needed, I may do a thorough cleaning like this about 3 - 4 times a year & it happen to be time for me to do this.

A Little Back Story

I got this refrigerator about a year ago. I then went away and it was about 2 months that my husband & son had not really cleaned out the fridge. I had left signs around the kitchen & on the fridge as to how I expected them to keep the fridge and when to clean it. Well as they say, 'when the cats away, the mouse will play'. So I came home to a fridge full of containers from the store, most were old, & sticky shelves and just stuff everywhere. I had to spend about 2 days cleaning my fridge to get it back to new. Now it's just me & my husband and the only time he even wipes a shelf is when he spills something on it. If something leaks, he tells me that something has spilled in the fridge.

On To The Fridge Cleanup

About a week ago I first took some pics of how the fridge looked. It was a little messy with things rverywhere, all out of place. I try to keep it organized so I can find things when I need them.

Just look at that vegetable drawer, a pot in the fridge? (that's a big NO NO). The pizza box with one slice & just so disorganized. I have to look for everything which doesn't sit well with my busy schedule.

And the Freezer is just as bad. Nothing like getting cold hands before you find what you want.

Before (4).png

Here's the fridge after I removed everything but the milk. Can't have the milk going bad while cleaning. I did the fridge first and the freezer I just did today. As you can see my fridge is pretty clean, simply because I clean it when necessary, I don't like sticky stuff in my fridge so if something spills or leaks, I'm all over it. The Freezer just gets some crums from something not being closed properly or like the stain on the glass where something leaked and got sticky & frozen.

The Fridge

This looks so much better!! You open the fridge and can see what you got or don't got. Everything has a place & there's room if I happen to the store and pick up a couple of things.

And look at that vegetable crisper drawer. Before evrything was just thrown where ever it fell. That's what my husband does and then he always ask me if we have something when he just covered it up when he wasn't using it. Look at that After I have cut & bagged certain veggies, the carrots, brocolli & cauliflower, you can actually see I have lemons & lettuce. I like to bag things just in case the go bad. like tomatoes, cucumbers, & peppers all get soft and their juices leak, so the bags help keep the fridge clean. This drawer gets cleaned 2-3 times a month.

The Freezer

I just tackled this today as I had been shopping and also been picking up things for Thanksgiving. Like that fresh corn that I already cleaned, put in a bag to freeze to prevent spoiling before time to get cooked. Most things in the freezer get bagged unless it's in boxes. But even some boxed stuff gets bagged cause the boxes take up too much space.

Freezer After (2).png

Here's where that extra space gets used, those greens are for Thanksgiving too. I've already cleaned & cut them and now I just pull them out, dump them in the pot and wallah! Greens for Thanksgiving!!

Although some things like that back of catfish fillets come in a plastic bag, I still bag it cause once it's open, if not bagged I may go in the freezer & find a couple of them have fallen out & they're just lying there.

Well that's about it for my 'Clean Your Refrigerator Day'!!

When's the last time you cleaned your refrigerator completely?

Thanks For Coming Along!!

We recently moved so the fridge is still at the uncluttered stage. Good job on cleaning your fridge. It turned out well.

Thanks! Now only if it could stay that way, but I know it won't. maybe 10 days - 2 weeks.

The pizza box with one slice

That's so typical. No one wants to throw away the box, or clean the pan, so they always leave just one piece in there. That way, there's "no reason" to take care of it, because there's still something in it.

Yeah, your so right, and men are the worst. Worst then children, you expect it from the children but a man, especially when it's just the two of you. They will stack & leave everything for you. I tell my husband, I'm not your maid I'm your wife, there's a difference.

Well, my husband gets all the blame now, because it's just the two of us now. However, I would say my children (well, all except one) were worse. It was sooooo difficult for them to take the last of something so they would have to throw away or clean up the container. My husband is definitely better than the children ever were.

But yes, most men are the worst. I'm fortunate that mine isn't that way. I think I trained him well! LOL😁

Yes, you did a great job. It's funny how when the kids were around my husband used to be on them & complain about things like that & now that they're gone it seems like he took their place. !LOL
