Today's coin reveal post features the 1oz .999 Silver 2017 Chinese Panda Coin.

This Chinese Panda coin is quite unique as it is not actually one troy ounce like other popular coins. The 2017 Chinese Panda coin is actually only 30 grams, this is something that is not often taken into consideration when people are negotiating to buy these coins. You can imagine if you are buying multiple panda coins at a time that the ounces can add up is you are under the assumption that you are buying a 1 troy ounce coin (31.1g) instead of a 30 gram coin.

1. Coin Story

The Chinese Silver Pandas are the flagship silver bullion coin series minted by the People’s Republic of China. The first Chinese Panda was minted and issued in 1983 as a proof quality coin. Silver Pandas at that time were only .900 pure silver and had a very limited yearly mintage of only 10,000 coins.

For some reason the the People’s Republic of China did not mint any Silver Chinese Panda in 1986, something for me to look into and research a bit further.

When the Silver Chinese Panda was reissued in 1987, the purity of the silver coin was increased from .900 to .925 sterling silver.

2. Coin Packaging

These coins are packaged in individual sealed plastic capsules. When purchasing multiple coins they could be bought in sheets of 15 coins per sheet. If you wanted to purchase in bulk, the most effective way was to buy a monster box, that consisted of 450 coins.

3. Coin Details

a. Mintage

There was a mintage limit of 10,000,000 coins. Each of the coins were issued as Chinese legal tender under the authority of the People's Bank of China with the denomination of 10 Yuan.
