5 Minute Freewrite: big desk by the window

Big desk by the window...sounds nice. Big desk implies big room. In a big house. I'm not exactly sorry that we don't have a big house. I think there's something kind of nice and minimalist about having a just big enough house. Well, our house isn't really just big enough. We really could do with an office. If it had an office, and a guest bedroom, but really, an office could double as a guest bedroom, so just an office...then it would be just big enough. Maybe someday we can add a second story. That would be really cool. I always loved the idea of a house with a secret passageway. I love nooks and crannies and little built ins and whatnot. We couldn't afford that kind of house here. I guess I love here more than I loved the idea of that kind of house. I do love Los Angeles. I need to download the Duolingo app again and keep working on Spanish, but Brendan is right, we really need to get practice speaking it. Maybe we can find a class somewhere. Maybe we can do some sort of immersive training. So there's a hurricane headed our way. This is the biggest news of Los Angeles all year, I think. The news stations are in love with a hurricane. Disaster preparedness! So much news to get people to tune in to! The most ridiculous thing I ever saw on the news: My mom and I were at the laundromat. No, we were at the tire place, getting a flat fixed and then finding out the flat couldn't be fixed, so getting a new tire, and there was a car chase happening. A really slow police chase of a semi truck. And the semi truck pulled off the freeway and drove slowly down a street that had several unhoused folks living alongside it, and there the semi truck stopped, and the driver got out and put his hands behind his back and blah blah, the drama was basically over, so the ridiculous newscasters, looking for any sort of drama to add to this story to keep people watching, speculated that the driver might have exited there on purpose because he had some sort of dealings with the unhoused people there. I scoffed. I scoff. I wonder what the actual story was, though.
