Geometry: what it is

[ENGLISH]
The word geometry is derived from the prefix geo, which recalls the word earth, and from metria, which means measurement, so literally one could relate the word geometry to the meaning of measuring the earth.
Geometry is the discipline that studies the properties and measurements of geometric figures AND is considered a part of mathematical science.
The objects that surround us, the pieces of land we live on and other things, all have shapes that can be traced back to one or more geometric forms. This is why it is important to study geometry in order to fully understand its measurement.

Geometric figures are divided into two types:
-Flat figures that possess two dimensions, i.e. length and width.
-Solid figures that possess three dimensions, i.e. length, width and height.

The birth of geometry
According to current studies, geometry dates back to the time of the ancient Egyptians. Herodotus, an ancient Greek historian, recounted that, due to phenomena arising from the flooding of the Nile, the extent of certain Egyptian lands changed practically every year. Thus was born geometry, used to calculate the extent of those lands for tax purposes.

The development of geometry
The development of geometry goes back a long way, already the ancient Greeks used it to make many measurements.
Euclidean geometry defined the concepts of point, line and plane. This geometry is attributed to the Alexandrian mathematician Euclid. Euclidean geometry consists of five main concepts called axioms or postulates.
1-one line can be drawn between two points
2-a segment can extend beyond two points indefinitely
3-given a point and a length it is possible to describe a circle
4-all right angles are congruent to each other
5-if a line cutting two other lines determines on the same side internal angles whose sum is less than two right angles, by extending the two lines, they will meet on the side where the two angles have a sum less than two right angles.
Cartesian geometry
This geometry incorporates Euclidean geometry but introduces two other important disciplines of mathematics, algebra and analysis. In this geometry, the plane is identified with the Cartesian reference system.
Algebraic geometry
In the 19th century, algebra became one of the main tools for studying geometry
Differential geometry
This particular geometry is the study of geometric objects through analysis.

Thank you for dropping by and leaving a comment. As happens with so many other things, geometry was born to be able to pay taxes adequately

I used to be very good at geometry in school, even faster than my teacher in solving problems!

How nice to know this about you. Then you're still good and smart
