Something To Watch Tonight

Night Always Comes

Lynette is a woman who risks everything in order to secure a home for her family’s future. Experiencing an odyssey that unfolds over the course of a single night, Lynette is forced to confront her dark past in an attempt to finally free herself from it. A Netflix film. Is it worth your attention?

🟢🟢🟢🟢

  • Vanessa Kirby stars and does a solid job. She starts a bit weak but as the film progresses she shows her range and strength.
  • Her brother, Zack Gottsagen, who plays a character with Down syndrome, also delivers a very good performance.
  • The conversations between the two siblings are one of the film’s strongest elements.
  • Fast pacing.
  • Director Benjamin Caron opts for a raw, almost neo realist tone.

🔴🔴🔴🔴

  • There is no real development of the mother’s character, so many things remain unclear.
  • While the film tries to maintain a realistic tone, toward the end it slightly loses focus.
  • It feels confused as a film. The screenplay betrays it in terms of progression, and many of the protagonists’ decisions make little sense.
  • The ending will likely leave you unsatisfied.
  • It is ok for a Netflix movie, and that alone is not a good thing.

Overall, it came across as very mediocre to me. It did not win me over as a viewer at all.

The Home

An unconventional young man is sentenced to community service at a quiet nursing home, where residents are forbidden from going up to the fourth floor, as its occupants require “special care.” What sins am I paying for… that is all I will say 😅.

🟢🟢🟢🟢

  • Plenty of gore.
  • The eye scene near the end is creepy and visually effective. It somewhat saves appearances.
  • I will give it credit for trying to make an existential commentary, even if it remains only an attempt 😅.

🔴🔴🔴🔴

  • What did I just watch? 👀
  • The script is complete nonsense.
  • I will say it again: why is Pete Davidson acting in movies, and even in leading roles? He has no range or depth to support a performance.
  • Poorly directed B-movie, and I freaking love B-movies.
  • None of the supporting cast adds anything to the film.
  • It has a TV-like aesthetic.
  • Excessive number of dreams and jump scares.
  • The characters feel more like caricatures.
  • I did not find it scary at all.
