Changing Interests , Growing older?

For some time now, whenever I come across something impressive or intriguing, I find myself reflecting on my younger self and wondering if that particular thing would have captured my interest back then. I contemplate whether it would have motivated me to delve deeper, research about it, and understand its intricacies. What I have concluded is that with each passing year, fewer and fewer things manage to pique my curiosity.

During my twenties, I would easily discover four or five things every day that sparked my interest. I would later search for them using Wikipedia or Google to learn more about any new terms or concepts I encountered. I still remember hearing about the debt ceiling for the first time fifteen years ago and embarking on a quest to comprehend its meaning, who was involved in the voting process, and continuously stumbling upon new topics to investigate.

Does this phenomenon of gradually losing interest accompany the aging process? It is quite close to the truth. As we grow older, our experiences, perspectives, and expectations tend to shift, resulting in a change in what impresses us compared to a decade ago. I believe this transformation occurs because we evolve as individuals. With more experiences under our belts, it becomes increasingly challenging to encounter truly novel things. Moreover, as we accumulate knowledge and maturity, our expectations for new discoveries rise.

One crucial factor that significantly influences the evolution of my interests and the things that impress me is shifting priorities. As I mature, my values and priorities naturally change. My current interests, goals, and aspirations differ from what they once were. In the past, going out and getting drunk followed by recounting the previous night's events used to be at the top of my priority list, but that has changed now. Sometimes, it feels difficult because this shift signifies growing older and leaving behind a part of myself. However, is it truly abandonment, or is it an evolving piece that always remains with me?

I think it's an evolving piece. With maturity through the varied experiences we have had, we begin to see things differently. Priorities shift and the focus turns to more meaningful things with lasting impact.

Truth be told, age sets priorities apart from themselves. Because we're more responsible as we get Older, our perspective about a lot of things change, including the things that used to excited us. A lot of people would give anything to go back to when they were younger.
