What is Cosmos?
Cosmos is a network of decentralized independent blockchains, each one of them powered by a consensus algorithm (like Tendermint). This makes Cosmos an ecosystem of blockchains that are able to scale and interoperate with each other seamlessly as they are built on a set of modular, adaptable and interchangeable tools.

A fundamental problem with traditional blockchain is scaling- it's hard to grow and maintain speed. Cosmos leverages two types of systems to overcome the scalability hurdles:

Moving away from Proof-of-Work with Tendermint and allowing for thousands of transactions per-second.
Having multiple parallel chains running the same application and operated by a common validator set, making blockchains theoretically infinitely scalable.
