MY CONDITION AFTER SURGERY

Yesterday, I was able to meet an ENT surgeon (Ear, Nose, and Throat) about my condition. I actually went with my mum because there is no how I would leave for surgery and mum would not want to come along.

We arrived at the clinic which looked really shiny. It’s been long I had been to one, so I could not remember how being to a clinic feels like.

A forced smile of me

I took this picture while I was with the surgeon in his office but I didn't take a picture of the surgeon. While we were talking the surgeon saw my uvula and was surprised at how big it was. In fact, he described it as being "Giant" and needed to be cut off.

We asked him why it was so, but he gave us two reasons why the issue could occur. First, he mentioned it could be a cancerous growth or a bacteria infection but to be sure I need to go to a lab for a test and that would be at another hospital.

For my partial uvulectomy surgery, the doctor gave us a bill of $500 which was Ahhhh!!! and shocking. This was when I needed the power of a mother when it comes to pricing and pleading. After a lot of discussions, we brought it down to around $300 but before we finalized, she had first asked if we could pay $40 for the surgery and I was like, superwoman at work because of the prices she was mentioning, I can not even mention it if I was the only one with the surgeon.

I would say thank you to my friend @selfhelp4trolls for lending me the money to pay back anytime I have it ready and also to @hopestylist for generously sending me 2 hive without requesting anything from her.

Although I cannot stop using my drugs even I feel better because the doctor found I seem to also have an elongated epiglottis but that can still be treated and isn't giving me an issue because it is not in its critical condition as my uvula. He told me what I should be using for it and to come back within two weeks. As for my lab test, it is best I should do that for my own good.

As for my surgery, he asked which type would I want him to perform; either an anesthetic surgery when I would be put to sleep and I would not know what happened or a local anesthetic surgery; where I would be awake while it is done but only little to no pain while they cut it off.

For sure, I would not want to be awake to see them perform on me since it was my first surgery but I had no choice because the anesthetic surgery is really expensive and way beyond the money I had at hand. So I did my surgery while awake; opened my mouth while they cut off part of my uvula. I would not say it was not painful at all but I felt a tiny pain while it was done but I didn't have single bloodshed.

You can see the picture of my uvula below

Yeah, that's amputated uvula in the images above. You see how big it was. In fact, the doctor said it was the biggest he had ever worked on before. 😪😪😪

I would be taking the amputated uvula to the lab today for the test which would take them two to three weeks before getting the results back. Obviously, the lab test would require me to pay which I totally hope the money for the test wouldn't be high.

AS OF MY FEELING

I would say I am a bit relieved but still feel discomfort in my throat because of the inflamed epiglottis. But at least, now I can eat, drink and swallow. I have lost a lot of weight and become very lean because of I have been on only liquids. I would still be taking my drugs so I can get off the epiglottis issue and not get it to become critical.

MY THOUGHTS

Now, I am left wondering what would happen if I didn’t have the money for my surgery. What if I wasn’t on Hive and was facing this problem. I just won’t know what state I would be in because the condition was already at a critical state to as far as not being able to speak but to communicate through signs and writing.

I really thank God for letting me meet Hive and the wonderful people here because my life has been in a better situation comparing to my days before Hive. Thank you all!

Mannn I’m glad you are ok. That sounds pretty hardcore. I just searched about it, I had no idea that it is fairly common to remove a uvula. I guess you will be fine as long as you take care of it these days. I’m glad I could help. Phew

Doing surgery without aesthetic is very painful experience yet you endured it. Am glad and I hope all will be well soon.

May complete healing visit you.

Cheers

He mentioned that he did a local anaesthesia which was a bit affordable unlike the former that is very expensive but would have been more convenient for him

I’m so sorry about this! I just asked my dad about it (He is a consultant radiologist) and he said it could be a bacterial infection or malignant growth. ThankGod for the surgery and also we pray that the result will come out positive as a bacterial infection. So that it could be easily treated.
So sorry my gee!!!! God is with you!

I'm glad the surgery went well. Are you sure you can eat strong food now? Please don't take anything too strong oo. I feel you will still feel pain if you eat anything, so just take something light for the now😂😂.

Is not easy Sha, thank God for pain killers oo, I wonder how someone can bear that kind of pain 😏.

Everything will be fine soon, just make Sure to do the test so you will know the root source of the problem and then you'll treat that and I pray money will not be a problem.

Lol. Me that is already eating anything. I got home yesterday and drank 4 soft drinks. I ate 3 raps of fufu, ate like 3 chicken. I am trying to eat everything I missed. Plus was damn hungry.

For the test, I would be going for it today. Hopefully, I get a favorable result. And yeah, money would not be a problem ijn

So sorry boss for the challenges you experienced. I thought before that a giant uvula didn't really pose ant issue but I was wrong. Don't worry, the epiglottis test tedukt won't be serious and also the surgery. Try to be happy and full of faith. Hive is really a blessing to us, I thank God for it everyday.

Yeah we should thank God! The test is to know the reason behind the inflammation not actually an epiglottis test. I appreciate your comment. Thank you!

Ohh I get now. It may just be a bacterial infection that'll go back to where it came from sooner or later. Stay strong 💪

Damn! That's really one big uvula. I'm glad it was a successful surgery and soon you'll feel alright. Have you started swallowing yet?

It's a good thing people came through for you. This is because you are a good person..not everyone will be in this need and find help here . Keep being wonderful and have a quick recovery

Wow, man...I log into Hive and one of the first posts I found in my feed was this one. I was immediately alarmed and came to see what was going on.

Glad all went well with your surgery and your mom was a great support. Moms always have that super power to ask for price breaks...I really don't know how they do it, but it's amazing.

I have the same feeling about Hive. I've currently been raising money to have spinal surgery which, let's just say, is a bit urgent and my Hive savings have helped. The same thoughts cross my mind that cross yours: What would become of me and my medical problem if I were not on Hive?

I hope you get better soon and that the lab test does not show any negative results. I know everything will be fine, take care of yourself!

Moms always have that superpower to ask for price breaks...

I don't know where they get this special power from. I guess your mum is like that too. When you become a mum too, I am sure you would be like this too.

So about your spinal surgery, have you done it yet?

Hive has come a way for many people. The connections and genuine relationships are what make Hive a wonderful place.

By God's grace, I would get better fully.

Haha yeah, possibly in a couple of years I'll develop that superpower too.

And no, I haven't been able to perform my surgery yet. I still have to complete the total amount of the surgery, not much left, but it has been a little difficult due to the economic situation in my country, but I try to keep calm and not get desperate thinking about the money.

Ahhh...$500 for uvula! Eweeeee

Thank God for mumsy's bargaining power, she even said $40 😄

I'm so happy you're fine now.

One question, do you still have any uvula left?

I would have laughed if I wanted okay. It was hard removing the smile from my face when she was bargaining price with the doctor.

One question, do you still have any uvula left?

Yeah, I still do. It was a partial removal, not total.

I am sorry to hear about your medical condition but happy to know that your surgery is done and I am quite hopeful that you would get better soon.

Inflation and joblessness have made many people worried about their lives. The medical facilities and food are all of their reach. Being on Hive feels like a blessing.

Many many good wishes to you

Oh! At the mention of surgery, everything in me stands still🤕😢
I don't like that particular word though cause it has a way of instilling fear.
I am glad you got rid of that thing successfully 😇
Sorry for calling it a thing cause what's that huge Uvula doing there😂😂

@starstrings01, Thank God you've finally done the surgery, but this epiglotitis issue is something else. The Doctor should have sorted both the uvulitis and epiglotitis once and for all.

0

You can not amputate epiglottis.. it's a different thing.

0
0
0.000
avatar

That's true. There should have been an injection you can take to make it go back to its normal size. It's what the doctor can simply give you the medication in addition to the former. Though the medication for uvulitis should be able to go with epiglottitis as well. Happy sunday aburo
