A VISIT TO MY FRIEND"S WEDDING WITH CREATIVEPEARL

For over a month, I have been looking forward to my friend's wedding ceremony, as I had promised him I would attend and also come with my babe too. As one of his dear friends, yes, I needed to buy the Aso Ebi (which is a family cloth). Getting the aso ebi is not cheap, and there is also still a cost for sewing it with my tailor, so these were some of the things I was worrying about.

Apart from getting this Aso Ebi to support my friend's marriage, I also personally felt I needed to add to my native wear collections, so this was also a motivating reason to get it. I was able to manage my finances to get the native clothes and also not be so much in debt. It felt really good that I am beginning to manage my finances better than before.

So this weekend, I had to travel down to Lagos from Abeokuta, which is where I reside, to attend my friend's wedding, which was held yesterday. I had not been to the location where the event was to take place, but there is something I have learned over the years when I am trying to get somewhere, most especially in Lagos, that if you give me a good description of the location you need me at, then I can be there. I do this by just asking for directions while I am on the way, and I try not to look like someone who does know his way; I walk as if I own the place and know my way.

This is important, as Lagos is not a nice place for someone who looks like someone who doesn't know his way. It would be an opportunity for the roadside boys to take advantage of you or probably steal from you.

The day before the wedding, I had messaged my friend to confirm when the wedding was to begin, and he told me at 10 a.m. I laughed within myself when he told me the time. On the next day, when it was 10 a.m., I decided to find my way to the bathroom to brush and bathe. I didn't leave my home until it was almost 11 a.m.

Please it is not my fault I was leaving by this time, but with my knowledge of African ceremonies, if you are given a time, get there 1 hour at least after the time, or maybe 2 hours. I don't advise you to be there earlier, as you may regret it later on.

THE MOST EMBARRASING MOMENT

As part of the groom's friends, we are supposed to dance in before the groom and the bride come in, and somehow, I happen to be the shortest of the groom's men, so they wanted me to be in front of the line to dance in, and I know myself; I don't dance. I cannot even dance to save my life. 😅

I had no choice but to dance, but I didn't know any steps to take or how to shake my body. My body was just too rigid while everybody was looking at me. Pearl had arrived at that time, but shy Pearl did not join the line; instead, she stayed far away, telling me to dance now.

Dancing is something I rarely do. It is the least activity I engage myself in, so if you ask me to dance for any reason, I will just be looking at you. I had to tell a friend that I made at the wedding that I would have to go to dancing classes when I knew my wedding was close by because I didn't know what I would be doing if I was asked to dance with my future wife.

THE FUNNY MOMENT

At this moment, the groom's face was covered with a piece of cloth while he was asked to touch the hands of different ladies in order to identify his wife. It was so funny how they were trying to deceive him.

One of the times I laughed was when he called a man to hold the groom; maybe he would mistake the man for his wife, and the groom figured it out. The response from the MC was "That would be easy, how would he not recognise the hand of a carpenter". I really hope you get the joke.

It was really funny how they deceived the groom by calling a lady who is not his wife, waiting a few minutes before she touched him so that he would think it was actually his wife, then asking her to touch his hand. My friend, who is the groom, fell for it. It was so funny 😅😂😂

THE MOMENTS WITH PEARL

With Pearl around, I had someone to always talk to. I had my best friend beside me, and it made the wedding more fun. While sitting with her, I was having these husband and wife (daddy and mummy) vibes at the wedding 😅😂. Some of my friends at the wedding came to tell me that I was next in line, asking when I would be having my own wedding. The question was very funny 😅😂

When the event was almost over, Pearl and I went out to take some pictures together before we started to head home.

After taking pictures, we figured out that my way and Pearl's way were in opposite directions. Since she is not based in Lagos, I went with her until I knew she could find her way easily before I started my route. It was during this period that I wished I had a car, as it may have been easier to drive her instead of boarding from cab to cab.
